That's not being anti social that's called social diversity. The same might be applied to a nerd chick bringing you to a comic book convention and you having no knowledge on the latest issues of batman or whatever. It doesn't make you anti social. Being anti-social is willingly avoiding communication with other people for whatever reason. Being cool is just a matter of opinion I only brought it up because there are some guys in here claiming that black nerds aren't seen as different from the rest of the black community.

Black nerds were isolated and almost made extinct by popular black culture until some myspace thot decided to take a picture wearing glasses. All of sudden nerds were cool and all the gray areas were invented. In HS all the nerds intermingled. I remember when scene kids and hipsters took over; it caused the great divide between nerds. It was a sad day in nerd history. A hipster in 01-06 was very different than what it is in 2016.

Hella diverse. Without black nerds modern hip hip wouldn't exist. We acted as a bridge between all ethnic groups. I've been skating since I was 7 years old. I used to get called a fakkit and chased home for wearing tight pants. All the black skaters would stick together because we had to fight the jocks and the gangsters. We intermingled to survive, lol.

Now I see cats like the under achievers and all the rap rock kids running around and I can't help laughing because I can't tell if they're nerds or cool kids pretending to be nerds. I guess time will tell. Long live nerdism though.

Most of the dudes you see obsessing over these chicks aren't nerds either. The reality of the situation is they feel these nerd girls are more attainable because of the various shared interests that more attractive or mainstream guys do not share or participate in. The problem is that these dudes don't want your average black nerd, they want the IG version. A sexed up, curvy black chick that speaks proper English and lacking the typical strong attitude of your average black woman. Regular black nerds look like Binary for the most part. Painfully average and socially wounded individuals much like the ones who seek them out.

You're probably right. I can be friends with them but I don't find them attractive at all. They remind me of boys. Not being able to carry an appropriate conversation is anti social. I'm 26. If I take a girl out to a function which is usually relative to me making money she cannot show up talking about cartoons to my coworkers or clients. She has to know how to work a room even if that requires lying to everyone. Let's say we get serious. My mom wouldn't take someone seriously, especially a girl who's wearing a batman t shirt. In my circles we discuss economics, small business models, drugs, punk rock, ratchet music, and make jokes about analog to digital recording and reference Smiths' songs.

When we hear someone geeking out over Pokémon and comic books it comes off as juvenile and not cool. We don't want to talk to them. Lol, maybe we're just a$$holes. I make Harry Potter references a lot, but those gets a good response.

I've never met a nerdy girl who can work a non nerdy room. That's typically not a skillset nerds have. When I worked at gamestop we hired nerdy girls to sell games. They weren't very good at engaging people. I'm making sweeping statements but let's not pretend nerds typically are highly skilled socially. I dunno what you mean by high level conversation. Lol I think that's all they can do. And although I like it, it's not cute and it's not going to fly in circles I run in.

I think you're either looking at the modern definition of a nerd or are romancticizing nerdism. Technically a nerd can't perform socially at a high level. I'm a nerd although I dodge the title because I don't like labels, but, I like that you're being kind and not putting nerds in a box. I'd also like to add if you've never been beaten up for being smart or your genetic traits you're not a nerd. Nerds traditionally aren't popular because they're ostracized by popular society because of their interests or physical oddness. Being bullied creates trauma during developmental years which interrupts the development of social skills of the bullied.

Lmao, I am. Everything is straight forward to me. I did take a class about personalities and that's where I learned that. My background in college is chemistry and ecology. Lol, you're observant. I think your definition is modern and I find it wonderful as an old guard nerd that Rosario Dawson is a nerd. Back in my day nerd girls werent cute. They were fat. Or had no body and acne.
