Tomatoes are trash now because we've selected for shyt varietiesthat can make it from at least California to DC in a week without spoiling. Heirloom tomato seeds are cheap, not illegal. If you have a county library you probably have a seed library somewhere close by which would make the seeds free.

OP for real tho besides the weird mouthfeel of a tomato tomatoes do taste like shyt now because the tomato flavor has been bred out of them. If you grew your own, or had homegrown tomatoes it may be different.
