As far as checking for new albums from the mainstream? Yes. Most of the big and upcoming rappers now are cookie cutter and uninspired. Feels like they are using it as a hustle than actual artistry.

I came up listening to rap in the early 2010’s when you had Kanye, Jay, Wayne, Kendrick, Drake and J.Cole all active simultaneously. I remember being in middle school watching Raider Klan, ASAP and Odd future blow up, it was an exciting time to be a rap fan. shyt is unrecognizable compared to back then. The diversity and quality was on another level

I’ve been eating off the underground though Open mike eagle, Billy woods, Griselda, Earl :blessed:

Mike Eagle is great. I Rock is one of my favs

Uncertain grounds
I still listen sometimes but mostly to older stuff. Less so for the content but moreso for the energy. Some of the content was still toxic but the stuff I liked had more complex rhymes that made it intellectually provoking, or made me appreciate the skill involved. And while the content was still sometimes negative, the energy was less hostile unless they were diss tracks.

A majority of the new stuff is seemingly playing off the monetization of negatively. Theres a formula playing of people seeking relatable content as an outlet for some of the negative stuff they are encountering in their lives. People want to feel like they arent alone in how they are living their lives. Theres a different purpose to music listening by more people than appreciating skillful displays of both rappers and producers. Just my personal opinion. I dont fault people for liking the new stuff or do I hate on it. The game has just changed

Last year of hip hop I loved was 2012. Nas dropped Life Is Good. Kendrick released his debut. Even Rick Ross dropped a banger. And 9th Wonder. I thought “yes! Hip hop is back.”

After that year, I went completely off it. Macklemore was the final nail in the coffin for me. You can take whatever you call it today. :scust:

Nope. Only rap that gets regular rotation from me are DOOM albums. Listened to Cameo "Candy" for an hour today :russ:

I'm getting money and living a pretty good life. I don't need to hear this bullshyt ass music being made today.

I see why old heads always talked that shyt about "Back in their day." Some of that music is pure joy that just isn't in the game anymore.

Not really..

Today's popular rap music isn't for me..

But, I will dig I to the archives and listen to artists of my day or I will listen to R&B, jazz, soulful house or other genres of music.

Not gonna hate on today's rappers, but they are for the younger crowd. They like what's out, so they can have it!
