Anyone else notice 2Pac didn't mention 1 west coast act on the 1995 song "Old School?"

NWA, Too Short, Ice T and MC Hammer were all out and making noise, way before De La Soul was putting potholes in the game. "Wild Thing" by Tone Loc was way bigger then Potholes In My Lawn.

And you can't say it's a NYC thing because Latifah is from Jersey and she didn't really start making noise till "Dance For Me" followed by "Ladies First" which was 89. And I remember in 89, the kids in my age group were saying "fukk the police" more then I heard them saying "Ooooooooh Ladies first, Ladies first." "Bust a Move" by Young MC was bigger then anything Latifah had that was out in 89.

Pac said he was listening to Treach to get him thru the night. Treach is also from Jersey. But MC Hammer took the music world by storm with "U Can't Touch This" a whole year before we ever heard of Treach. :heh:

And don't bring up Treach being in a group in 89. No one knew Treach by name like that in 89. :comeon: Plus Pac didn't mention the south either and Geto Boys and 2 Live Crew were making noise. "Me So Horny" by 2 Live Crew was bigger then anything Treach had out in 89.

Because it was a dedication to his NYC roots.

:comeon:

What part of And you can't say it's a NYC thing because Latifah and Treach from Jersey didn't you understand?

West Coast music was a part of NYC roots. Wasn't like NYC wasn't playing all those west coast songs I brought up. Again. "fukk The Police" was a very popular slogan in NYC 89. Wild Thing was bigger then Potholes On My Lawn in NYC.

I mean, the dude lived 16 years in NYC, filmed his movies in NY, did his jail bid in NY. The vast majority of his life was spent there.

Thats cool but Pac mentioned Jersey rappers in that song and he didn't live in Jersey. And he was living in Cali when De La, Treach and Latifah were doing their thing. Pac was living in Cali by 88 so not acknowledging Hammer, NWA and Ice T sounds way off.

he literally explains it in the opening line.

All these motherfukkers in the Bronx and Brooklyn
And Staten Island, Queens, and all the motherfukkers
That laid it down, the foundation, ya know what I'm sayin'?
Dude .. Pac even said himself he did a whole song giving it up to NY.

You can still delete this

And yet Jersey isn't mentioned in any of that but you just skipped over the part where Pac name dropped Jersey rappers.

I literally explained that in the OP

What does that matter? Clearly Jersey is part of the NYC Metro area. Plus for someone that, again, was celebrating their NYC roots, Jersey is much closer than California. Especially culturally. That’s like saying Maryland and Virginia have zero relation to someone that lives in DC.

Man wtf you talking about?

Hammer was seen as a childs act and also sort of a joke in those days.
Revisionist history and nobody caring about the culture is what's making him acceptable now.
Tone Loc!? :heh:
Why wouldnt he mention Treach?
That was his guy.

Im from the midwest but its goofy to not accept the roots of hiphop were on the northeast
