She did put another show on HBO and they canceled it. All of those being essentially the only thing that popped off from those creators should show how hard it is to recreate greatness like that. Just gotta hold out for the next one to come around

You ever peep The Vince Staples show on Netflix? It's kinda akin to Atlanta. Really small start tho, with I think only 6 episodes, but season 2 drops next month.

Nah it was already long in the tooth due to Covid. Nobody watched that last season. I don’t miss the show itself but like u said nothing took its place. We are overdue for a culture show we can all discuss. It is what it is though. Maybe Kai Cenat & Kevin Hart will come up with something lul

While I have some grips about Insecure and Issa Rae, it did fill a void and did a lot at an elite level (cinematography, soundtrack, diverse representation of “everyday” black folks).

Which can happen when young, Black and talented cast and crew are given opportunities and latitude AND are coupled with HBO-level production and resources.

There’s ZERO mass appeal shows for everyday black millennials, which says a lot about the film and TV industry (and cacs).

In a sense, it’s a miracle that it ever came out to begin with. As we saw with Rap shyt, if you don’t keep capturing lightning in a bottle as a black creator, the studio is quick to pull the plug and go back to what they are familiar and comfortable with.
