Been to both. Would choose Tokyo without a doubt. Plus your dollar goes extremely far in Tokyo

Edit: there might be more English speakers in Hong Kong tho since they have a sizable expat community.

I heard about the English speaking thing. We were leaning more towards Tokyo. Any other reasons why you prefer it over Hong Kong. That Hong Kong skyline just looks amazing to me.

I prefer Japanese culture. Clean, polite, great food. Endless amount of things to explore.views of mountains Fuji are amazing depending on when you go. I like the fashion and sub culture they have dope music bars. Hot springs

They speak English because they were part of the UK until 1999

I don't know any better but Hong Kong's heyday seems long gone. Like before we were born long gone. Tokyo on the otherhand seems objectively cool :ehh:

Overall
I think Japan is better if you're willing to hop the Shinkansen and move around the country a bit.

Hong Kong
Stayed at the Mira Hotel. I enjoyed Hong Kong and plan on returning but outside of a few scenic tours I didn't find it too compelling. All of the interesting places, like Kowloon (The Walled City) are now tourist attractions. It's all very Western these days, high-end shopping, fast food, etc.

Tokyo
This is tough. It's difficult to really get into the culture of a place unless you're there for months or years, so, I mean, you can see like the anime district, or the party districts and I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I actually had the most fun in places like Kashiwa-noha, and just driving around Tokyo and exploring random non-tourist areas. I loved that shyt. Also had way more fun in places like Kyoto and lesser known cities that I could just explore and find peace in.

My favorite spot is Zurich, I enjoy discretion, orderliness, and a sort quiet and refined character. I actually see myself living there or finishing grad school at ETH Zurich, that's how much I love it.

To that point, I actually enjoyed staying just outside of Tokyo, in places like Kashiwa and Kashiwa-noha, where there is a UTokyo satellite campus, have kind of a youthful, yet quiet, feel to them.

means the majority of folks speak English
This is just untrue.

I've been to both, and the English level is about the same, non-existent for most people, but things for tourists are "Engrish" enough
