True I did think about this. The only positive I can give is that you'll probably die instantly if it didn't deploy. :ld:

Double malfunction is extremely rare. The reserve is packed every 180 days by someone certified by the FAA. In America only 24 people in 2013 died from over 3 million jumps. Most of these deaths are not from freefall. The parachute is already open, "experts" decide to have "fun" swooping which is extreme turns low to the ground(think like 50-100 feet up) and misjudge the turn. Also people die from not using current equipment. There is technology now called AAD(automatic activation device) which deploys your reserve chute if you don't throw out your main chute below a certain height. Someone died last week because they were unconscious(hit someone in the air) and did not deploy his chute and he didn't have an AAD. If only he had decided his life was worth the money of an AAD. Last there is RSL(reserve static line) and skyhooks. These will automatically deploy your reserve if you cut away the main chute. In the past you would have to manually pull your reserve handle which could take precious seconds. You are still taught to pull them, but normally when you cut away the main chute the reserve is popping out automatically before you can even pull the real reserve handle. By the way all student gear and tandem gear uses the newest technology so you really don't have to worry about anything.
