@Mr. Somebody
How's your son doing friend?
Hes almost walking around. He takes some steps and falls down. Hes well though. He is a very serious child which i think he gets from me. I'll post a photo later of his intense face but he is very no nonsense with people he doesnt know. He enjoys watching Numberland. and looking at new sights. I shaved his head a litle over a month ago and his hairline grew back like Vegeta. for some reason. Maybe it needs more time to flesh itself out. because it didnt look like that when i cut it. He is very well and healthy though thanks for asking. How is your family, friend. :sitdown:

I read the Dao De jing and analects of Confucius, some books on wing chun that were written under the guidance of Ip Chun, who's Ip Man's son (Ip Man was Bruce Lee's wing chun instructor). That and just googling as much information that I could everyday. I'd read kuen kuit which means fist poems or little sentences that contain some principle based in wing chun philosophy. I also got high a lot and zoned out on it, hardcore. Since I'm a musician, most of my schedule is determined by me and here in NOLA, things slow down around July and August, so for two months I made it a point to read information on it daily. I changed my diet drastically. I'm actually not sure how much I lost but I calculated my acceptable weight based on my age and height and ate pretty much vegetables with rice and the occasional meat mixed in or a salad from April (it was before then but around April was when I started taking notes on what I as doing) until about now. I've slacked off because of the holidays but I timed it right because I hit my ideal weight 170 around October. But, whenever I do cook or ate at home, which is almost everyday, I still pretty much eat the same way.
What's the need for me to do all of this reading and such? Isn't it more important that I do the physical exercises?

How does it better my experience? I'll check stuff out either way.

I figure, it depends on the level of intensity that you're doing it

Why do you think that it's like that for you?

Looool man, I don't take that dude serious. I let him talk while I listen.

I'm not trying to completely destroy someone, I'm trying to be more in touch with my energy, while learning a bit of a martial art. If you peep the link I posted on the first page then you'll see that the people doing the tai chi gatherings are Asian (I think Chinese) who work in the Confucius/china department of the university. So I feel like if I were to go and enjoyed it then I could seek knowledge and I'd be in a good place to find some.

The physical training mirrors the philosophy. Like concepts of chi or qi. You'll learn the vocabulary quicker too. For me it helped me wrap my head around it. Considering the fact tai chi is an internal martial art, it's necessary to approach it in non aggressive, RELAXED manner. Reading gets your head right. A lot of people, including myself, miss important aspects like where your energy comes from and what parts of your body are actually at work when you're doing tai chi. You're actually relying on your opponent's force, not your own. What the movements and forms (like 24 or 108) get you to do is move your body in systematic way, slowly, and teach you to rely on balancing your energy and distribute your opponent's force.

That's the cultivating chi dancing movements of the art..but it's really a combat style of kung fu..if you take it to that level..it's more slow flowing movements when where as kung fu is more fast striking

It really in the breathing too. Qi (chi) just means energy or life. Gong (kung) means cultivation. You can learn the movement but if you don't know how to breath, your energy is subject to manipulation. You store the energy in your Datien or your midsection which is how you channel the energy and redistribute it. People think the energy comes from your muscles in your arm but all you really do in tai chi is train muscle reaction while your midsection does the work.

Ah this is sick, well I just downloaded that Confucius book (The Analects) and I'll pick it up later.

Has it improved your life? Your way of thought?

@observe that's what I was thinking, sounds sick. Plus you could transfer from one to another.

So phourtay do you think someone experienced in tai chi could fukk somebody up easily if it was necessary?

It's changed how I think for sure. Even at the beginning of reading analects it mentions how a person who asks how is better off than a person who is angry or focuses on what they don't have. To get to the root of things. The Dao de jing is mostly circular thoughts that make you arrive at your own conclusions while presenting both sides. That has me thinking about proper timing and knowing, observing, etc. What really moved me (and what got me started originally) was the idea of benevolence. Everyone is looking for that, even you. The most reasonable thing to do is produce it. You'll be a benefit to yourself and those around you. I also took time to look up words I ran over, even simple words, like love, at meditated on what it meant to me and how I display. It's a deep bond of affection. But what's affection? I just really started analyzing myself and reshaping my character.

And just from doing things like sticking hands and review applications of certain movements with shifu (and he's pretty old) I know if he ever wanted to "fukk me up" he'd have no problem. He puts just the right amount of energy into it where it makes alert really really quick and it almost gets the adrenaline flowing. He does just enough where you are neutralized or almost under his control. Even thinking about it I can feel it.
