Anyone have a NAS, Network Attached Storage? Synology or QNAP?

Its viable IF you are connected via ethernet and make sure that the laptop doesnt go to sleep.
The second question sounds like a bug, but you shouldnt need to rely on the finder since synology has a webUI anyway
I'll try today, I guess synology has something called remote mount to assist with the process

is simply copying the data over after connecting to both servers on finder viable or should I use the synology apps or command line? Also why is it when I restart my synology server I can't connect to it via finder unless I restart my PC?

i dont know your setup but connecting both devices to a switch can make the transfer as easy as ABC .. open both in explorer and drag and drop.. and keep your computer on (disable sleep monitor can turn off but not computer sleep)

Synology is dope. I have one. I highly recommend it if you like having your own cloud-like device for media and also for general file storage or "cloud" access to things.

Their OS is really good for it and I don't regret buying it. Its a fun "toy". I have 16 GB (2x8) with one drive redundancy on it. Mainly use it for storage of my plex server.

TBH if he talking about Synology NAS type devices I assumed a switch was already in the mix..

yea .. but i couldnt understand why he was doing the transfer wirelessly unless its plugged directly into his router.. syt.. he could plug both into his router... so im lost at his issue unless he's connecting to them through the router and the NAS transfer is bottlenecked by his laptop.

he should then just plug all 3 into the router and use wired connection on teh laptop and do everything that way

Taking advantage of NAS transfer speeds require a lot of bandwidth. My NAS has 2 Ethernet ports bridged together on the switch. RAM could be an issue also. I upgraded my NAS from 2 to 8 GB. Made it noticeably more responsive and way better at multitasking. Wi-Fi is introducing a bottleneck, even at a full strength signal.

wasn't attempting to do that, originally it was plugged in via ethernet, didn't think of me transferring the data over wireless for an hour would really make a difference. Both drives are connected via a switch to my router, it was slowly but surely copying until that happened. I will attempt again tonight

@TripleAgent @Atsym Sknyfs Another thing y'all may be familiar with, my seagate central has files on there that are hidden, meaning they show up in the hard drive when I view it on my phone through the media app, but when I connect via my Mac only recent files from 2014 show up, I have music files before then but they aren't shown in finder.

Any options?
