Got my MBA, truth of it is it's only worth going into debt for if you're looking at a top 20 program (really like top 10-15) - possibly some regional programs are cool if you plan on getting on with a company that's local to that school and respects their program (i.e. Rice or Santa Clara etc). Really an MBA is about the network it provides you and that's only as good as the school.

It is technically a useless degree, as unlike law or medicine - you don't need a degree to practice business. Outside of hard to get in industries/roles (finance, consulting, tech, brand management at blue chip CPG's) I hardly ever see it as a requirement for various roles so think long and hard about its value to you and whether you really need it. Not sure how old you are or what types of institutions you're targeting, but if not the top 20, it might be better for you to work for a big company that will pay for you to do an mba after a couple years of being employed.

I have no real job experience :francis:

I thought I wanted to get into medicine but after I got a taste for the field I realized it wasnt for me :francis:

im looking to go back and get into a different field :francis:
Just read this...um, an MBA ain't for you at this point. You need to just get a job and/or take some continuing education courses/JC courses to develop some knowledge about the industries you're interested in and get an entry level job

I got a full ride to a top 30 school through them, as long as you can get a decent GMAT and show that you have done stuff for the community to promote diversity you will be straight. You just need two solid references...

The only Ivy league on their list is yale if you are able to score 700ish

Engineering was something I wanted to do as well but I didnt want to go back and start over (but I am willing)

Can you let me know more about your experience with engineering? Was it tough to find a job? What's your work life like day to day? Do you have to deal with a boss?
Just curious, did you just graduate, if so what was your major? Engineering (Electrical) is fine, I work for a utility company, the pay is nice, I was able to find a job pretty fast, I actually had an offer right out of college but turned it down because I was waiting to hear back from another company (was pretty sure I was going to get the job, the process was taking some time). With my job I deal with the power lines so I spend some time outside too, I can't complain. Engineering when compared to my MBA classes was waaaay harder. Yeah I deal with a boss but it's not a big deal but I do want to do my own thing on the side.

That's a cute quote - too bad he doesn't even believe that. Most the corporate roles at tesla want mba's (or other relevant advanced/professional degrees)

That's the funny shyt about that. Thiel is another one. I bet his VC only wants MBA's and grads from top schools despite advertising dropping out and not pursuing graduate degrees.

This is absolutely true, I had a recruiter from palantir going hard after me and then asked if I had any referrals. His companies are full of mba's and Ivy League degrees

I'm thinking of getting an MBA but I've heard it is basically a useless degree now. I want to get into Business administration and/or finance but I don't want to take out a loan and go into debt then be unemployed afterwards.

Those of you who got your MBA would you recommend it? How tough was it to find a job after? Do you enjoy the job you have? If you could go back what would you do different?

Any and all advice is appreciated brehs

:lupe:

I got one in MIS..i did mine full time and it does take a good part of your free time...i didn't work at all 3 of my 4 semesters..lived off my savings and financial aid refunds..you do have to do a little sacrificing. I got one because I want to follow a management track..and cosigning @dora_da_destroyer its best to get it at a reputable school with a top 20 program. Job wise it took me 3 months after I finished to fall into a job where I can utilize that knowledge. I love the current job I have now that i'm management. i pay my contractors and intern and tell them what to do :dame:

If i can do it all again shyt I probably would have worked more years and try to fall into a company that would reimburse me for my MBA before I started one. Because financial aid didn't give me jack shyt but loans. 55K+ debt :francis:. Thank god I had no undergrad debt though :whew:

I haven't done a Masters yet and I don't know if I will. I just graduated my undergrad degree and I'm gonna work at Glencore (multinational commodity trade and mining company) hopefully in January.

Anyway I had done an internship there in my gap year, and they offered me a job after my 3 year undergrad degree on the basis I get a 2:1 or higher (UK university). I've finished my exams now after 3 years and I'm on course for that 2:1 grade I need. The employer called me up last month or so asked how I was doing etc. We were talking about the potential job offer etc. and I said I was considering doing a masters degree. He said that tbh, a lot of employers aren't that concerned with a masters degree, so not worth going through all the trouble.

So I'm thinking that if I have work secured, why bother getting my masters? The only way I'd personally do it is if they would cover my expenses and let me take that one year out, and then come back into work seamlessly. Otherwise nah. But since your case is slightly different, maybe having that extra qualification could be useful.

In terms of worrying about debt, don't you have to earn a certain amount of income per year before you are obliged to pay it back? If that degree will help secure you a well-paid job (inshallah), then hopefully the debt won't be anything more than a pain in the ass, rather than a financial burden. But American universities aren't cheap either.

Best of luck whatever you decide bro.
