that's a tough area to do consulting in depending on what your experience is. clientele is important clearly so i would start with people you've already done successful business with, and have your "e-portfolio," resume and cover letter updated in every format (digital and physical)and have it ready to go at all times.

is it just you or do you have partners?

and what are your business goals? do you want to do this full time or is this an extra stream of income?

and what city do you live in?

It's just me at the moment.

I would like to target small companies who may need help in the makering area.

I'm looking to do this as an extra stream of income.

I live in the DC area.

god damn is that business a race to the bottom.

I've been getting on these dumbass business owners that they need to switch and be EMV compliant but they won't listen.

And the competition is fierce every single firm out there that does it just tries to undercut the other. There's going to be no money left to be made.

I see what you're saying, but it doesn't really apply to me.

Yea, I've been giving my accounts EMV compliant terminals for a minute now. The ones that haven't are just going to have to get with the times.

As far as competition, I practice business/corporate law, so a lot of my merchant accounts are businesses who I already have a preexisting relationship with on the law side, so they're loyal. Also I'm an ISO of First Data/Wells Fargo, so I typically offer lower rates than just some sales dude walking in their business trying to solicit them. A lot of it is just building rapport and providing service to where they won't want to go through the hassle of switching even if it's going to save them some money. That's really what I try to concentrate on.

I have agents all across the country who all do really well, and I'd like to think it's because we train them on exactly that. It's about more than the pricing. If that's all you have to offer a merchant, then you're fukked, because someone else can always come in and be willing to give them a lower rate just to add another drop in the bucket.

sounds like you're in a good situation.

a few questions.. in the past how many clients/businesses have you helped increase their sales using your marketing strategies? and do you the have the specific numbers to back that up?

do clients need to be local in DC or can you work just as effectively through the internet?

how do you plan to target small companies who need help with advertising?

honestly there is not a company in the world who couldn't benefit from better/more advertising, but what's going to make them spend a portion of their budget on you? there's open courses on the net from ivy league business schools giving away whole curriculums on marketing and advertising for free-what is your plan to compete with that?

@op I'd imagine it to be a highly saturated and competitive market
