don't ask people on the coli none of them know

managers get from 15 to 20%. usually being 15 of anything they make unless they're really big you'd then get 20.

you set shows up via promoters, rappers usually start with clubs, so club promoters owners. or you could do an independent tour whereby you hire the venue pay the venue and keep the proceeds.

How you gonna say dont ask people on the Coli cause none of them know and then you go and give and answer :dead:

Are these people ever one person?

nah it can be a conflict of interest to wear so many hats. you need a separate booking agent as they generally already have the connections and skills to get those shows. most managers won't want to be on tour all the time either, that's why you need a tour manager. hell, you may also need a business manager too.

and to whoever is saying that 15-20% is industry standard, yeah maybe. but realistically, you'll find 10% is far more common. you give your booking agent 10%, your manager 10%, your tour manager another 5-10%, all that adds up pretty quickly.

this coming from a guy who actually works in the music biz and deals with a handful of managers EVERY DAY.

Let's say you been managing them for a while...

How do you determine how much you personally get paid? Contractually? Word of mouth? Is it a percentage? How do you set up shows for your artist? What's the process you personally go through?

I'm assuming that they actually have things to manage (booking shows, music to distribute, etc)

I always went with 15-20% of all revenue that was brought in, but that was because I had my hands involved in multiple things with the group I was managing (booking shows, studio sessions, finding producers, managing online content, e blasts, etc). But it's all about what y'all agree with as being fair but I wouldn't take any less than that

Contract. Word of Mouth is what causes fallouts between management and artist. For French management was getting 10% of everything. For Puff's "manager" snitch James Cruz was salary prolly around 200k. Manager can bring shows to artist and he would get cut but it all depends on the negotiations between manager and artist

What does a manager do then exactly? I ask because what can a manager accomplish that the artist themselves and a reliable booking agent can't accomplish? Maybe, when you start getting a buzz, I can see you needing someone to keep track of your appearances and schedule, but until then, what can a manager do that the artist himself and a booking agent can't do?

Most artists can barely function as humans let alone be on top of business, schedules, etc

OP you better get a contract so the artist knows beforehand what's up. And a manager does everything concerning business with the artist. Remember if the artist is doing well that means you're doing well
