This time next year my wife will be finishing her RN program. Very proud of her. She stays up studying all night to pass these damn exams.
Idk if this is the career for me tbh. Im still not in the program but im close. Not sure if all the stress in the program is worth it though( 2 year degree).. Any nurses on here or anyone who knows any nurses?
I work for Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan, so its a pretty big hospital. Who you know has a lot to do with where you can get into though. So make sure you leave good impressions wherever you are. But I was a respiratory therapist before I was a nurse, so I already knew people within the hospital to get the job I wanted.I'll be starting an accelerated program in January if I get accepted.
@djthegreat88
Is it a large hospital you got to go straight to icu in? I've heard they don't like to hire new grads. Did you do an accelerated program? Also, I have the opportunity to do a straight to NP program. I was apprehensive because I don't know if I want to commit to NP. What say you?
My wife is...but shes that type of person. You have to be really caring brah...my wife says cacs talk to her any kind of way and she just walks off like it didnt happen. Couldnt be me
Man id probably be spitting in them drinks. Wifey said one dude told her she was a black bytch while she wasa cna giving him a bathMy moms a nurse, same experience. She worked in a VA hospital too with all kinds of oldhead racist vets. She let taht shyt slide, said her homegirl at work was a savage though![]()

A lot of places like to hire new grads because they can train them from the ground up. Experienced nurses alot of the time have bad habits they acquired from previous jobs that can be hard to change due to them being stuck in their ways.
Henry Ford has nurse residency for new grads in ICU for 1 year. When you finish school look for something like that.
I have a traditional BSN from University of Michigan- Flint. It was a three year program. Wish I could have went accelerated route. It felt like I was in school forever. NP is decent career if that is what you are passionate about. NP programs are good because they allow you to work as RN while your in school. But paying for grad school aint no joke. Financially I couldn't justify going to school for 4 more years for an NP salary. I want to be a CRNA due to my respiratory background and they start out making +170k a year.
Which is why i work intensive care. All my patients are half dead. If they can talk to me, they are too healthy to be on my floor.
If anyone wants to get into nursing avoid the regular floors. Those kind of jobs are terrible. Luckily I was hired directly into ICU out of school.
They seem pretty desperate for nurses. A good portion of our staff was hired from Canadaman, when I was on my job search, your hospital actually called me to come interview, but I declined because I wasn't able to relocate to detroit and they wouldn't let me work from home.
I've been an ICU nurse for a few years. The schooling was like an annoying marathon, but not necessarily hard. It's a great field to get into especially if your a male. You can get a job anywhere easily. And there is a lot of options for advancement. I'm about to start applying for CRNA school soon.
