I'm thinking of doing some light renovations to my home to rent it out ......

I have drop ceilings in two bedrooms and kitchen and wood paneling in upstairs hallway...

looking to knock out all the drop ceiling and dry wall it and drywall over the woodpaneling (cant rip out)..

anyways i've watch youtube tutorials and it seems pretty straight forward but and i wanted to do it little by little ...is this something a novice can pick up fairly quickly or truly leave it to the pros? I feel i can save a ton of money doing it solo, it's not like im drying a home from scratch

It’s gonna look like shyt. Pay someone who knows what they are doing...

Drywalling is one of those things that’s easy to do and hard to master. Unless you want to spend a ton of time practicing just to develop a skill you will probably never use again in your lifetime.

I ordered a detached office/man cave for the backyard from tuff shed and tried to hang my own drywall. I patched plenty of holes in my lifetime and I’m fairly handy. The taping and sanding was bustin my ass. It looked awful. I tried to go with a smooth finish and kept fukking up.

I eventually gave up and found someone to come out and do it all for $300 labor and then I painted it myself.

shyt is extremely tiring if you want it to look nice. I do all the finish work at the school I work at, so I always get stuck with drywall duties. For the corners try to use a brand called Perfect 90 Joint Tape. It works a lot better than the regular stuff. If you don't do a skim coat, make sure to prime it with PVA instead of regular primer.

Me and my coworker are in the process of redoing our workshop right now and I'm almost ready to do the final coat of painting after I primed it the other day. Used to be one large room, we split it in half, created an office area and bathroom, and are going to add some couches and tv to the lounge area. I laid all the panels, did all the electrical and network wiring, and am going to replace the florescent lights with some nicer fixtures as well. Should be nice af when all is said and done.
