I've been wanting to go back to school for some time, but not really sure if i want to start over again with an undergraduate degree. I wouldn't necessarily say I failed, i did graduate but my GPA wasn't the best. Is there any academics or anyone with experience with admissions that could offer some advice?

most grad schools only care about your GPA as it pertains to your major. Some do overall GPAs, in which case you might be fukked. BUT, many offer an entrance exam (not GMAT or GRE, some other shyt for their particular college) as a way to get you in regardless. And when all else fails, they may tentatively admit you to some of the beginning classes in the program and allow you full admission contingent on your performance in those courses.

what was your undergrad GPA?

0.2 less than most minimum requirements. I’d be all for a conditional admission but how would I imply that to schools? I’m a little rusty and not all too knowing about grad admissions and applying

Well...all these muhfukkas want you to submit that application fee...so you can't just go applying willy nilly. You gotta narrow down your choices and personally speak to an Admissions Officer at each school and keep in addition to the Academic Advisor for the College you're trying to get your graduate degree in.

edit: if you go to the same school you got your undergrad they might be more inclined to let you slide

A lot of grad schools look at your final 60 units.
Without even realizing it that was my selling point, I got a 3.0 plus my last two years, I wrote a letter about how I was immature my first two years etc.... If ones GPA last two years is not good either then see if your specialization GPA is better...there is always a way unless you are sub 2.0:mjgrin:

Was never a sub-2.0, but wasn't much higher either

Now I'm suffering for it when I look at these MBA undergrad GPA ranges :mjcry:

If I get into a Top 10-15 B-School with my UG GPA then I just have to come out summa cum laude just off the principle :yeshrug:

I might as well be fully transparent.

I've had depression for most of my late teen and early adult years. I'm now handling it with the proper methods and resources. When it came to graduation, I came out with a 2.3, in a major i really didn't like and had no desire to continue. It was what my parents wanted me to do. Now I want better for myself and actually study what I want, but I don't think my GPA will take me far. It wasn't that I didn't know the work or I'm not smart, I just couldn't get focused or interested in the material. By the time I realized what I wanted to do, I was already almost done the program and with my strict parents footing the bill I was put in a corner.

...going for a second undergrad might be my best bet.

I'm hoping to get into contact with someone who works in admissions anywhere to seek some advice. I want to do things the right way this time and hopefully at an HBCU where I'll definitely feel like I belong.

Your story is pretty much like mine. Not that I wasn't smart, just couldnt get around to doing the work needed. As a college kid I was just all over the place really. I got so deep into a hole it almost seemed futile to even get something over a 3. I just relied on internships to get me a position post grad.

I probably need a competitive B-School for my current industry as far as advancement is concerned.

Take two GMAT practice exams and see how you do on the 2nd practice

A second undergrad at an HBCU(2 years max I think) followed by a masters at a traditional school. You will have to tell a story, your story is that going to an HBCU gave you the opportunity to grown in an environment you were comfortable in (negates your 2.3). Get a 3.6 and up then thereafter get into a fortune 500, work for 3 years, then go to biz school, with quite the story to tell. If you have some experience already then apply for biz school right after 2nd undergrad, then go after fortune 500 if you get decline .

This is basically my plan:lolbron:. Applying for Law School currently but I want my MBA eventually too. Undergrad GPA wasn't too hot. Be thankful grad schools don't have their own calculations for gpq like LSAC. They tore my ass up:francis:.

But I already planned on going back for second bachelors. Probably at Hampton where they offer online classes so I can have more flexability and then get my MBA after that. There's always a way to get where you wanna go but sometimes you just gotta take a longer path.
