I haven't experienced depression in my adult years however I have experienced work induced anxiety. In fact, I've had about two anxiety attacks that were related to stress from work.

Other than that, I'm typically in a positive and optimistic state. I stay active. I bookend my day with physical activity. First thing in the morning and last thing in the evening.

Do a lot of water based activities. Water has a calming and meditative affect.

Bike most places. The fresh air and open perspective that you get versus being confined in a vehicle also keeps your spirit high and more in tune with what's going on around you..

Church. The Coli takes a negative stance against organized religion. However, I believe religion has its place. Provides weekly mental renewal, and, if you are in the right place, an extended supportive family that has your best interest at heart and looks out for you which can be affirming to your sense of self and place. An anchor of sorts. That has at least been my experience.

Don't watch much TV, with exception to a few tv shows and definitely don't watch the local news. It could get really morbid and dampen your spirits.

Reading. Most adults tend to read less and less as they get older. Especially in this technological age. But reading books, poetry, or listening to a good classical or jazz piece really enhances the beauty of the world and makes you appreciative that you're able to experience it.

Being social and going out with friends or associates once a week. The key to human happiness is in the relationships that we have with others. So it doesn't do us much good if we isolate ourselves or are lonely all the time.

Volunteering. Gives you a perspective that there is much more to life than the bubble that you live in and that whatever little problems I have pales in comparison to many people that are out here struggling.

I'm not on social media as much to be affected by it.
