Anyone realize RnB Groups literally dont exist anymore?

Male nor Female groups exist anymore wtf happened?

When I think about it the 90s was FLOODED with Groups that weren't even big and it seems after the early 2000s (like Destiny Child era) they vanished.


Comp was so thick Missy group got shelved.

Even Tia and Tamara were in a Group

It's because true R&B does not sell anymore. R&B artists want to be rappers because rap music sells. The only R&B that does really sell is hip hop influenced. Those who stay true to R&B understand that they have a very limited audience and financial gain compared to the 90's. You'll get your Frank Oceans of the world but there's not room for a lot of people like it was in the 90's.

Frank Ocean I can hear the old influence but Frank doesnt seem to have the Gospel Aspects which was key to many of the older groups. Frank Cant sing for a damn but imo I could see him and Devante Swing making good music together. Franks stuff is too "raw" and he needs some guidance to sharpen his sound and find his strengths.

There isn't groups period anymore , we all know music groups don't have the best history when it comes to money

Everybody wants to be THE Artist

This generation every artist wants to be THE star, plus unless they're parent are poor or absolutely broke they realize that the have to split that money by how many members they have.

Destiny's Child worked because Beyonce was the leader/ Alpha, Kelly is a success now but while in D3 she was mostly background/ beta submissive to BEY and Michelle's just happy to be in the damn picture...that why that group worked so well.

Now everyone wants to use Beyonce's formula, get some buzz and hopefully go solo. the problem is they have the solo attitude way too early in the game.

In America it's really not going to work, in the UK and the rest of Europe it's still pretty popular though.
