The older I get the more I respect down south rappers. Back in the day (mid to late 2000s), I thought it was remedial music because they weren’t super lyrical like East Coast rappers but now I realize they were just making their own style of music.

For example, I didn’t get this song back then but I get it now :banderas:

Nah, I'm a New Yorker and didn't know hating on southern rappers was a thing until I started posting on The Coli.

Was a huge fan of Ludacris growing up. The Texas movement in 05 with Mike Jones/Paul Wall and Slim Thug :banderas:

Now Ludacris was cool with me because he was basically a NY style rapper. It was the cats that were southern sounding that I hated on.

Nah I always had love for the South because they got shyt moving in the club and always brought a warmer consciousness to the music. It seems like the hate for the South came from the lyricists of the region's focus being more on raw emotion than alliteration and word play. Not enough spiritual/lyrical/ask beavis get nothing but head bars for some.

But I will say T.I and Pastor Troy's music aged like some shyt tho. That shyt just sounds awful to me now.

In a way yes.

The explosion of black KKKLANSMAN genocide drill rap has made me appreciate the fun snap & crunk era of the past

I can't believe I'm saying this but I would do anything for a Laffy Taffy type era to get back in style

As much as I hated that song in real time it was fun and danceable.

I wish the youth had fun music instead of dancing to lyrics about shooting and killing each other
