Any advice, ideas, info you can spare. Thinking about creating an LLC.

Any of you use legal zoom?

Depends on state and product you’re selling but Delaware if you spend the money is the best state to get incorporated in thanks to company protection laws.

if using an online option check out incfile. they typically have better rates and quick turnaround.

Edit: 1 more thing beware depending on the state you may have to advertise your business in 2 business newspapers. In NYC that shyt is absurdly expensive.

Don't bother with Legal Zoom unless you feel you absolutely have to.
I did my research and found out that I could do it all myself directly with the state for a fraction of what Legal Zoom and other similar services charge.
Before paying anyone, get familiar with you state requirements.
In VA, I paid $100 for the LLC filing, and $50 for the business license.
Every state has different license requirements and fees.
You'll also need to get a Federal Tax ID or "EIN" number, which is free.
You're state may also require you to apply for a Tax ID with them as well.
You can do all of this online. (For the business license you MAY have to apply in person).
Again, I don't know what state you're in or the rules of your state, but I would estimate that you shouldn't be spending more than $200 to get an LLC established with all the proper paper work.
I just recently opened my LLC (a video production company / recording studio) a few months ago.

I can ask my lady, and give u some more info. U gotta get an article of organization, u need an EIN and u can get that for free on the irs website. And i would wait until next year to register the business. Your first year u get a bunch of tax breaks, cuz they kniw u gin be in the red starting out.

Not every state requires articles of organization. He needs to look up the requirements of his state before doing anything else. Interestingly enough, even if the state does require articles of organization, some banks want you to have that and an operating agreement before letting you open an account.

Dude you don't need Legal Zoom to form an LLC.

I have 3 LLC's and it's absolutely the easiest thing in the world to create them yourself. You just file Articles of Incorporation with the state that you live in, and then you file for your tax status (your EIN). The whole thing would take less than an hour.

Dont pay Legal Zoom for something you can do yourself for free, dawggie.

This....good stuff.

Because in some states an operating agreement isn't essential paperwork in the LLC formation, either.

Check your state requirements.

Something else to consider is whether or not your business is ready to become an LLC. It’s good to take things serious and get all the proper paper work to have your business officially established; on the other hand, most people (like myself) start doing business “under the table”. Something to keep in mind is that once you establish your LLC you’ll have to pay taxes on your income. In VA, my self employed LLC tax is 40% of my net revenue. (Yes. You read that correct. 40%). This year alone I’ve had to set aside $40K for taxes since my business since hit $100k. While I was doing business off the books I was able to negotiate a few substantial contracts. Once I knew I had the contracts, I scrambled and got my LLC officially established. So I say all that to say, if you aren’t bringing in significant revenue, you may be better off flying under the radar for a little while longer. I’m not advocating you do anything illegal, but without knowing any of your business details I’m just suggesting that if you are still in the very early stages, you might be better off focusing on developing your business skills and honing your craft as well as developing your clientele. Also, try to structure your prices with taxes in mind. You’ll risk losing your client base if you go in way too low and then double or triple your prices later to make up for taxes. I guess an important question to ask you is; why do you want an LLC and if you don’t mind, provide some general details about your business.

most states should have an online portal in which you can register.
each state's tax rules are different some states don't tax unless you make a certain amount. its always better to register as an official business rather than some janky under the table unprofessional shyt.
