The Jewnited States
Superstar
Watched this movie recently and loved every second. Hell my mom who usually hates gory movies couldn't stop watching once she got invested in the story and characters
Dog.
I got so immersed in that movie that I completely forgot about Europeans. Seeing those ships coming to shore, to me, gave me that movie twist that M. Night Shamalamadingdong used to give.
Mel Gibson is a racist piece of shyt....but god damn can that fukker make a movie....
when i first watched the movie, it was back when there was no instant netflix and being the moviehead I was decided to try it out for a month, my pops had also just got an 80 or 90 something inch DLP TV (i'm too high to remember the exact size, but its big as fukk) and I had a PS3 as a bluray player. Apocalypto was one of the first movies I got for it, I specifically looked for visually striking films because it was my first time really experiencing blurays on a really nice TV, the fountain was another one I ordered for example (hated the movie but the visuals were nice). I usually like a nice cannabis buzz for a movie but I usually don't like to get in that "I'm too high" stage, but I was there for this one, and saying I almost had a panic attack was no hyperbole, because I was so high I was thinking about how in the past, this ACTUALLY HAPPENED to someone. It's known they did human sacrifices in this manner. So somewhere in the past of the human race, some human actually experienced and went through what was being presented in this movie, and obviously the visuals were absolutely incredible, I literally damn near had a full blown panic attack, after that scene was over I had to pause the movie and get a glass of cold water.that whole sequence is so intense!
Well not for jaguar paw, he saw throught that shyt immediaetlyVery intense movie and well shot too...from the beginning no matter what happens, you know its a depressing ending though because the cacs are coming
I saw a lot of people say that Mel put that in there at the end as if they were being "saved" by the incoming cacs, but I didn't get that from that at all, I took it as he survived all that crazy shyt and more crazy shyt was just around the corner. Life back in those times was brutal and short.Very intense movie and well shot too...from the beginning no matter what happens, you know its a depressing ending though because the cacs are coming
right, that's the way I took it as well.I saw a lot of people say that Mel put that in there at the end as if they were being "saved" by the incoming cacs, but I didn't get that from that at all, I took it as he survived all that crazy shyt and more crazy shyt was just around the corner. I forget who it was, but someone was arguing with me vehemently that it was white savior shyt in that threadYeah, in that other Apocalypto thread a while back this was discussed, by I always saw that scene as affirmation that it's a "kill or be killed" world because there's always a bigger predator around the corner. I don't see how anyone could interpret that scene as white saviors knowing full well the history of what those incoming white people did to the natives.

right, that's the way I took it as well.
a bigger, badder dude was about muscle them off the block.
right but that wouldn't have made for an entertaining movie. the villains needed to be more clearly defined. you shouldn't look to art and entertainient for historical accuracy.it's a great film but the above sentiments is why the movie is considered a propaganda piece by many cause it made the Mayans look like a bunch of blood thirsty slave trading and raping scumbags who took advantage of weaker tribes so they deserved what they had coming to them from the Spanish. There is no evidence that the Mayans conducted large scale sacrifices and slavery like what was depicted in the movie and they didn't raid smaller tribes or villagers for human sacrifices, most of them came from elites and warriors they captured from other warring Mayan cities. Also by the time the Spanish arrived Mayan society dramatically changed and most of them abandoned the cities to live in villages and small towns.
humans with more power have been taking advantage of people of lesser from the beginning of our species and its not something unique to mayans, why would people make a leap and just assume the entirety of the mayan civilization were violent and rapey?it's a great film but the above sentiments is why the movie is considered a propaganda piece by many cause it made the Mayans look like a bunch of blood thirsty slave trading and raping scumbags who took advantage of weaker tribes so they deserved what they had coming to them from the Spanish.
