Apparently "female" is hate speech.

I agree and in every case I've heard it, it's a particular type of man. It's exhausting trying to get them to see how it's disrespectful, so I just ignore those who use it instead of the words women/girls.

Thank you. I don't understand why it's so hard to say women. I've never disrespected a man by calling him a male on some subhuman shyt. He's a man, first, no matter what.

This^^^

I’ve never referred to men as males... it just weird.

I honestly don’t understand why some men refer to women as females.. Honestly the more I hear it the more cringe it sounds.

So I understand how a word can be used as a pejorative given a certain tone but for all intents and purposes I think the word "female" itself doesn't imply any malicious intent.

Also language over time changes as well as the meaning of it in a society and across certain generations.

I'm fairly left brained and think technical when in many discussions so when I use female I typically use it surrounding some sort of fact or statistic.

The idea of it being dismissive of reductive came to me when discussing something with a woman in a group in regards to dating. I mentioned that there were a lot of females in the conversation so I wanted to offer a male perspective. I have had fruitful convo with her prior but really that was IT. There was no ill intention in my use of the word.

For her to come at me and try to censor me was nonsense and it appeared to me she wanted to make something out of nothing. Anyways I'm not for censoring words. I mentioned the same to a few other women in the group and they thought it was nonsensical.

Would you be open to sharing your perspective on this? Even if we don't agree fully, that doesn't mean we can't find some common ground. I'm not gonna shut you down for your opinion. I would like to hear it though

Here's the (VERY) short of it: black women are regularly stripped of our humanity. "Female" is simply one more way of doing so because one need not be a human in order to be a female. Google the rest. Far more writers have done a much better job laying it all out.

The Problem With Calling Women 'Females'

It's not a hard concept - replacing one two-syllable word with another one - but the Coli will die on that hill anyway. Which is why any man who refers to women as "females" is a man to avoid. If you can't even correct THAT tiny thing, how can you possibly be anything except bad news? Likewise, Coli men who get angry with women who have such ridiculously low standards such as "address me like a human being" will avoid women who demand a modicum of respect. Everybody wins!

So ironic how her whole point started out as saying calling a woman "female" is another way of calling her a bytch then the very first example she uses is female dogs :dwillhuh:

I somewhat get it... But anything can sound insulting depending on how you say it.

Sounds like something dusty nikkas would say. I mean who else uses “females” when talking about women?

Yup. Went on a date with this sista back in 2013 and she called me out on that.

Saying, "Female is actually derogatory and the modern day equivalent of slut, bytch, kunt, etc."

And i was like, wtf?!?!

What really had me taken aback was that it wasn't even implied in a condescending manner. I was just making a generalized statement and was referring to the other gender.

Perhaps we have to tread that much more cautiously and say, "An individual of the XX CHROMOSOME variety..."

Horrible.

Happy New Years.

.
Why does it have to be happy:ld:
