I work in the IT field. Plenty of women.

I'm majoring in a stem field (engineering) and there is recognizable misogyny among the students and the folks in my major. The most noticeable example is that I've noticed that when I had female professors people would talk in class more , act disrespectful, and they would be overly critical of female professors relative to Male professors.

On the flip side though, the ratio of capable to semi-capable/incapable females in my classes skew towards semi capable/incapable. They tend to heavily rely on male classmates for help if not to just outright have them do their work for them. It appears that they lack any confidence in their ability and as a result unable to make any independent decision when it comes to problem solving. They always need a male to reassure or guide them.

On the flip side of THAT though, the women who are not like that tend to be very very smart. There is a weird extreme between the two. The misogyny is particularly a problem given its indiscriminate and the women who are probably smarter than anyone in a class are a target.

Can't speak personally of the professional field.

Not it isn't. :what:
and so is hardware engineering

information
technology
what's so hard to understand

just because the tech support/networking crowd claims the term and not SWEs doesn't make it not IT

shyt it's not healthcare, it's not energy, etc

I thought about that, but it's still not an academic department. When Harvard or MIT confer degrees in "IT," you can sit at the table.

Until then IT is not on the same level as Engineering or Computer Science.

It's like saying that AutoCAD draftsmen are architects.... Nope. Or that plumbers are mechanical engineers.

IT is a technology maintenance field.
