Apple and Samsung could be pressured in AT&T's war with T-Mobile. Possible death of contracts?

so what yall saying is, if you were apple, you would sell the phones for no profit and just be a charitable non profit company? :ld:

Nobody said that, kill the dumb questions.

They are clearly overpricing these units cuz they know the carriers (like your employer who you always fervently defend) will subsidize them down to the correct price, so they get their volume (+ that subsidy kicker) whilst the carriers get their contracts....and the consumer gets screwed.

I don't even blame the manufactures, I blame the carriers for this farce.

That a lie, they love them for contracts. But T-mo is scaring the fukk out of them and their are thinking of new ways to do business aka crappy copies of T-mo's jump program and att's new no contract plan.

Your thinking is flawed but thats understandable coming from a PC stan :mjpls: they are not losing any money with the higher phone cost because the cost of the phone is built into the plan. So they get it back regardless. The contract was a good model for them.

:mindblown: the price of the cost is built into the plan but they take more months to recoup the money :mindblown: if the phone was $200-300 cheaper then theyd have more months of profit

cot damn you are dumb as fukk

I'm pretty sure those "no contract" plans just require you to pay the cost of the phone over two years or something like that...so you leave early, and that bloated price falls on you all at once.

They found a way to address that bulk purchase concern @itsyoung!!
is talking about :heh:

nikka stop you are making a fool of yourself. Seriously att and Verizon is making money hand over fist. They are not hurting. If the phones became cheaper it will hurt them because they will have less control over customers, thats whole point of contracts.

This isn't really accurate. While T-Mobile doesn't "technically" offer subsidies, the act of financing the phone keeps the process for the consumer the same as before, only that now you see exactly how much you are paying for the phone

Its not a subsidy at all. Whether you buy your phone outright or they give you an option to finance the phone with 0% interest. Yes if you cancel service before the phone is payed you owe the balance of the phone. Simple.

I know it isn't a subsidy. But in the end you still pay 200 up front for the phone instead of 600, which is what keeps the phones rolling out the door.
