I had some money lying around so I copped it as an early Christmas gift to myself. My boy's Apple employee discount and a gift card I had brought the price down to $75 for the 128 GB version that comes with an ethernet port.

I've had the Firestick for a while but I really should have gotten the Apple TV a long time ago. I already have a Mac, iPhone and AirPods, so the ecosystem integration makes things a breeze. The UI is less cluttered when compared to the Firestick.
Yes the UI is clean and doesn’t have a ton of adds like android TV does. It’s simple and easy to find what you are looking for.
I use my smart tv app on my LG and it shows you everything you don’t care about and your apps are all small between a bunch of ads and bs.

I’ve had just about every streaming device and my Apple TV has always been my favorite

those shyts suck though. Apple TV UX is undefeated. And they have travel cases that are compact unless you travel super minimalist It is fine in a back pack in a travel case.

Yea the Apple TV UI is next level not gonna lie, I honestly don't know why I waited this long to cop one. It's not even expensive.

I think the Apple TV is getting a refresh in 2025 so I'll use the 4K one I just bought as my travel one once that refresh happens. I'll thug it out with the Firestick for travel right now.

I don't think waiting for the refresh matters unless you mean getting a current gen cheaper to use for travel. When traveling especially internationally you aren't really dealing with quality TVs just some made in china 4k thing on avg. But yeah just get an Apple TV travel case, and then an HDMI cord (I bought a 10 footer just because some places I travel the HDMI port can be hard to get to or they have the closest power outlet in weird places.

Yea, I have the 3rd gen 4K model right now so think I may just get the 4th gen one as my main on once it drops next year then this 3rd gen one becomes my travel one.

But tbh, the 4th gen one won't really come with that many new features so I'll prob just order another 3rd gen one and call it a day.

unless you use this for gaming 99% of folks just watch streaming adds and airplay from their other iOS devices to the AppleTV so I`don't just say go for whatever is the best price. I have the 1st Gen they did 4K Apple TVs in my bed room and the newer ones in my living room and for travel and I literally see no performance difference for how I use at least.

Yea I just ordered a 2nd ATV and got a travel case with it that can hold a long HDMI case and longer adaptor.

I'm just gonna be using this for streaming

roku stick + >>>all for travel.

I did convert my roku ultras to ATV+ at home though this year after 11 years using Roku. I'm a Apple TV+ believer now. But i'd never travel with one.

Yeah Roku stick is undefeated rn especially at the price range. No excuse to not have one on all the TVs at ya parents house at the very least. Love my Apple TV for my main tv for sure though

I was at a thrift store over a year ago and found an unmarked (no price) Apple TV 4k in a dresser drawer. They gave it to me for $5. I still haven't got my $5 worth of use out of it because I don't see the point of it over the 4k upscaling in my TV, Series X, PS5, Roku, or 4k Firestick. And I can't sideload shyt on it so it will probably collect dust until I throw it away

You can probably sell it on eBay for a nice profit

It’s faster than all those devices listed. Switching from app to app is instantaneous.

Firestick is bloated with ads and the native apps on most smart tvs don’t have as much support as the ATV.

Also I think the ATV user interface and user experience is top notch.

I can’t speak for the PS5 but if you have other apple products, the ATV makes a lot of sense.

What exactly are you doing where you need to side load shyt and all that jazz?

My apple TV blows my PS5 and Chromecast out the water and the Roku and firesticks are fukking terrible.

Apple TV supports IPTV apps which I use and ingot a Plex server on it in addition to normal stuff like YT, prime, ESPN etc.

Paired with I can use my iOS devices as remotes and keyboards AND use my apple tv as an extended monitor.

If you use an Android phone the last part is irrelevant but the rest stands

So from 500ms to 200ms between switching apps is a reason to buy a 4k Apple TV?! I don't think I've ever once complained about how fast something switches from 1 app to another
