I can't speak for every woman, but my wife, my daughter, my sisters, and my mother will never in a million years be as hopelessly miserable as the women my wife befriended from these homes in these cultures. I can judge them by their own standards. The majority of women my wife has known from those cultural settings would have switched places with her in a heartbeat. There are aspects of Western society they certainly oppose, but the opportunity to have free will for their own lives was not one of them.

I have no problem at all with a western lifestyle as that's what all of us aspire to attain, but the support structures don't exist at the moment in those countries most of the time, and the men know of these economic and political failings. Once these things are sorted, you"ll see the trend follow that of western countries. Look and compare how the HIV/AIDS epidemic decimated and stills continues to kill us Africans and compare to western nations, I can't even start speaking of single parenthood in both poor urban and rural settings and the effect that has had.
