In short, yes they are luxurious. They have luxurious features, but just don't have the same badge presence as the German counterparts and people cross-shopping don't look at them the same (yet some will go to Lexus when cross shopping the German brands which is ironic given the parent company.) Buddy of mine worked for Acura, went to BMW for a few years and is back to Acura in a Business Manager role (though he prefers BMW cars as as whole) and says it's always a tricky spot when people come through to compare. For the price of a semi-loaded Acura they are willing to sacrifice features and go with a base BMW/Audi/Merc....

3rd gen TL was a great car (the TL-S especially). Shame how the front end of the 4th gen seemed to murder them. The MDX is great value too and a nice SUV, probably my favourite.

As mentioned earlier, Audi is the only other car I'm looking at. Basically I'm looking at TL 09 or higher. Anyone know of a good Audi in the 15 - 20 grand range?

Acura's are great cars. Very reliable, and also luxurious. They're also priced better than the german counterparts. If you take away the price equation, sure the german cars are better, but is it 15k better? I'd say no it's not. At some point, you're just paying extra for the badge.

I'd take TL over a peasant spec 320i in a heart beat. A lot of these people with leased bimmers have the BMW's with NO options. They only get it for whats on the hood. A basic 3 series doesn't come with HID's, genuine leather, and other features that should come standard for the price. When you load them up the price shoots up VERY fast.

Acura MDX is annually ranked best in its class, and the new 2014 ones is blowing its counterparts out the water.

As for their cars, it honestly depends on what you care about. To reiterate some of the sentiments in here, maintenance is relatively much lighter versus German cars because you're able to use Honda parts. In addition, for the entry level luxury class, I always find that Japanese car interiors look and feel a lot better than the German cars. I don't start becoming impressed with German interiors until I reach their $60k models. For me, interior is more important than exterior, which is why I would personally opt out for a Lexus or Acura.

I agree with the interior statement, thats where you are. When it's night time and the lights are on matters to me.

I like the TL 09 and up inside interior

Acura was really good in the beginning. The Integra and later RSX had mega-high tuner status. The NSX was unbelievably cool with tons of Honda Formula 1 crap carried over to the car.
They dropped all sports cars and are now uppity grandpa-ish cars. :old:

This is unfortunately true. They don't even have a coupe in their lineup and haven't had one since 2006. :(:smh:

I think people don't consider Acura Luxury because they are too similar to their honda counterparts. Most of the time its just the badge thats different. Look at the Integra, RSX, and TSX. Also their isnt much of a difference between a fully loaded EX-L Honda and an Acura. Although I think they're changing that with Acuras technology packages and their redesigned vehicles (The RLX, NSX, and the soon to be revealed TLX)

VW/Audi falls into this too, but for some reason they have more prestige. Some Audis are the most basic looking cars ever, sans the LED strips on the headlights. And by basic I mean so basic that their models look like those generic cars from GTA games.
