I know some people here have probably seen the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) subreddit, and some of those folks there seem like they're addicted to saving money. Any of y'all like that?

My big problem is that I'm "penny wise and pound foolish". I can be super frugal, and even cheap with most things (severely), but the exceptions are when I go to the casino or I go out with a girl I've already slept with while in another country (i.e. I'm not in town for long and who knows when I'll be back if ever, so let me spare no expense). As for the Casino thing I have sporadic addictions, for example, I'll go months without visiting one, but then when I do, I'll blow 1-2K in a week. As for the thing with the chick(s) I already slept with, I'm still kind of beta in some aspects and "don't want to lose them' (even though there is no real commitment from either side). I figure I can spend less on them when I improve my dikk game and my cooking game (less reason to "date" outside).

Anyway, besides the "write it in your diary" response, any of y'all mostly super savers, but have a small number of things that break (or bend) your saving discipline?

you haven’t qualified how frugal you are so this story isn’t really interesting. sounds like you’re just saving money up for your next casino trip or overseas escort.

Man I don’t.

I got nieces and nephews.

So with that die early worry, I’m trying leave my family with wealth.

My only concern is about teaching them how to money manage, so that they don’t piss it off.
Unless it's specified who gets what, fighting may break out after you pass. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that.

Thread has kind of shift from that so in hindsight it's only anecdotal, but frugal as in walking for 45 minutes instead of taking the train/taxi, using glass pyrex containers to take food to work instead of buying food, still scrubbing my boxers in the shower and getting up early to hang up my other laundry while the sun is still out so I don't have to use the dryer, using junk mail as scrap paper instead of post-it notes, etc. Pretty much anything you can think of that's frugal, I do.

I'm really about that frugal life, except when I'm not.

As for the escort comment, overseas escorts don't even cost money like that. I just show out a little for FWB.

Now give us some advice breh.

I have stashed some savings away since I was little. I think it helped that when I was young, I had to buy my own video games. My allowance was like $2.50 so I had to do additional chores to earn more and save up for months to buy N64 games. Really taught me about delayed gratification.

As for spending money, since I save a decent amount and my rent is low, I used to blow like 20-30% of my paycheck on clubbing & dating. I definitely recommend against people going to the extremes such as saving waaay too much and not enjoying life, or OTOH, not saving anything at all for a rainy day.

Now that the clubs are closed and it aint really safe to be shooting at random women 24/7, I'm back to saving +50% of each paycheck. Life isn't terrible being solo all day because I can keep myself entertained, but once this covid thing is over, I'm definitely going back to paying cover at the club to holler at chicks. My interest in saving does play out there though. I've never done bottle service and I always have a max price in my head for when the club is bussing and the bouncers just make up a cover charge in their head lol.

There's an existing thread about budgeting if some of yall want to go into a bit more detail btw

Edit: It sounds like a lot of yall don't purchase a lot of stuff. I would think long and hard if there is anything you need within the next month or so, because a lot of stuff will be discounted for Black Friday. I don't buy a lot of consumer goods regularly, but at this time of the year is ideal to splurge a little and still pay less than normal if you've been making smart money decisions for most of the year
