Are audio books better than actually reading?

Do you learn anything?

Like remember everything?
Personally, I do.

I also love the bookmarking feature on Audible - where you can write notes and save certain parts of the book/chapter.

I get bored and distracted when reading a physical book. But, not with Audiobooks -- especially when the narrator/author is on point and/or animated.

nikkas really hating on audiobooks, I remember everything when I'm listening to an audiobook. My pops used to read to me a lot as a child so that's probably why though.

Fatherless brehs wouldn't know about that though. :bryan:

It depends. Audiobooks I find are good for informative, non-fiction articles and short stories of sorts. I'd find it hard to listen to an audiobook for a novel, however.

All in all, I'd say it's a good way to stay informed and keep the mind sharp.

Spinoff thread from the podcast thread

which One do you feel helps retain more knowledge and why.

i have a bunch of books but no time to read them, thinking about buying the audio versions but I feel like i won’t retain and digest the information as much

Immense difference as reading is "active" in the sense that you have to do something whereas an audiobook can be coasted through passively with very little in the way of recall unless you make it "active" by taking notes or discussing points that it raises in real time, in your own words, in order to make them stick.

The very act of reading recruits more brain areas as you've got the narrative being pieced together, recall, projection as well as the whole spatial aspect as well.

Makes sense, didn’t think it would be worth going after them. Guess I’ll just make time to read them

to retain knowledge best i usually need to re-read the key parts and highlight them. and load them into Anki if it's an academic text.

i'll still passively listen to audiobooks too though if im just washing dishes or something and it's not a very hard to understand book
