Iono bruh's im fairly old myself, and even I am finding myself hopping on this streaming/itunes wave.

The ease and access of digital music is too convenient in this day and age. All the artists Ive supported this year have been through itunes. Especially with this new trend of midnight and surprise drops, I dont have time to wait a whole day then go stand on a line to cop a physical.

New model cars and laptops dont even come with disc drives. I think its about time we all just embrace this new medium and go strictly digital for the future.

The highest selling rap album this year (IYRTITL) did a milli off itunes, shoot I would argue that going digital only actually helps sales in this ADD "click a link" culture the youth are currently engaged in.

I always like to look even further ahead...

right now is the streaming age...what could possibly be next? shyts creepy thinking about it

I think the music world and industry would benefit more as a whole. (indie and mainstream wise) if the distribution and production of CDs were permanently left in the past

It would give everyone a even playing field.

coli 10+ years late/in the past as usual
This.

Last retail CD I bought was in 2006 and I'm an old head.

CD's will be casette tape status by 2020 as even video games and movies will all be streaming. Streaming is the future. Technological waste has become a bigger problem moving into the 21st century as formats become outdated and technology is constantly upgraded and replaced. It's more economical as well. Ofcourse this will lead to the shutting down of pressing plants, but like VHS and tapes now, more than likely CDs will be made in lower quantities to suit those who are late adapters to new technology and mediums.

It's a novelty now.

I buy albums, but they aren't a convenient format.
Pretty much. Some people still buy it cause they like the artwork and collect it, but it's a novelty now like you said, a relic of the 20th century.

With that said, expect the prices of current CDs to go up that are rare or out of print. Especially on discogs.
