No racism/sexism but I can understand if its essential to the story - Like CJ from Grand Theft Auto being from Compton or period piece set in Europe like Assasins Creed. But if it's something like the Last of Us or PS4 The Division/Watch Dogs where the race/gender of the main protagonist is irrelevant to the story you should be able to edit the main character race and/or gender imo.

One of the reasons Mass Effect, FallOut and Skyrim are so enjoyable is because you can do exactly that. This isn't film, videos games need to get on that.

While you got a point it's probably easier to programme, make a script and have the npcs react to a set character rather than user generated.

But it seems you are comparing adventure games to role playing games

only option is for POC to create our own media. i mean, we can sit around and bytch about it, but cacs are NEVER going to represent us fairly. be it tv, movies, video games or comic books.

I don't know why you keep acting like people aren't already trying to do that. It's simply hard to compete with established institutions who have much more reach and money. You can make as much dope shyt as possible but it doesn't mean anything if nobody has ever heard of it or is willing to give it a chance.

and listen, i understand it's hard. but it's a lot easier than expecting whites to set aside their collective interest, for the betterment of another race of people.

I'm not saying "It's hard so don't try"...I'm saying people are always trying, it's just VERY difficult to break through and stay afloat.

It doesn't have to be an either/or situation, BOTH can be done. People of color can create and own their own content AND they can demand more diversity from larger companies that they support.

:heh: the whole "forcing white people to accept us" route hasn't worked to well for the majority of blacks. trying to demand they put us in their games will only get back handed results.

never heard of these guys before, trying to find some of their recent projects but it seems like everything stopped around 2011. do you know if they're currently working on something?

Not to my knowledge, they started having serious financial problems around 09.

Being and independent game development studio is difficult as hell and I imagine it's that much more difficult when the company is black owned.

The two biggest success I can think of are DimensionU (that makes educational games) and ImageryMedia (that makes those flash games for Nick Jr and Adult Swim).

It's not an issue of "forcing white people to accept us" So much as it's a demand by a large block of their consumer base making demands. It's no different from how they're gonna have to start including more female characters in their games because the market is demanding it.

Lets not make this simply a black/white thing. This is also a gender issue. This also about the future of gaming where immersion is and should be the next step - where your likeness is the main protagonist. Video Game companies should be keen on developing that - not only for the sake of diversity, but for the sake of immersion.
