Scenario is flawed tbhare we talking a Man vs. Wild situation where we just have the clothes on your back? We will just make our own tools and weapons with the opposable thumbs and brain that make us Apex.
The hilarity of this "hunter and gatherer" talk.
Folks think, if pressed, they'd turn into Macguyver, or Jason Bourne, in the wild. Again, 9/10 ppl are done for, if left unattended in the wild against, some shyt, really intent on stalking, and hunting you.

If animals had brains like ours, they’d end up like us because they wouldn’t need all physical tools they have to survive. Animals and humans both want to be able to get the most resources using the least amount of energy. Working smarter will always win over working harder.

Technically we ARE NOT Apex predators.
This is because Apex means that you occupy the highest trophic level and derive all of your food/energy from other animals (Lions, polar bears, orcas, tigers etc).
Humans are versatile omnivores where we can eat damn near anything if we cook it right...more similar to a wild pig. Most animals aren't fukking with wild pigs because of how dangerous they are but a desperate animal might try it...similar to how a lion generally doesn't want to eat a human but might try it if desperate or bored.
HOWEVER......I'd say we are THE APEX PREDATOR because we can manipulate our environment and kill anything we want. We can literally destroy an entire species at the drop of a hat just because we want to. We don't have fangs, fins or claws but we have brains, effective language and opposable thumbs.
We would lose 99% of battles against Apex predators in a 1 v 1 battle with no weapons. But....if you put all lions and tigers and polar bears against a group of a few hundred humans and we get to use our abilities (to make weapons) and the animals use their abilities (size, strength, claws and teeth).....we would wipe them all out within a day.

As @RARI_Godwind mentioned, humans are a anomaly and dont even have a place in natures hierarchy. shyt, we basically destroy the earth just to sustain, we arent "natural" and dont fit.
So basically, no we arent, not even close for a plethora of reasons, biggest ones being A. The avg human today is weak, soft, lazy and too depedant on a ton of shyt just to make it day to day. B. The avg human doesnt have a clue about basic survival skills in the wild.
One doesnt just figure this shyt out, you have to be taught, and then apply the shyt repeatedly to commit it to memory, just like with fighting and pretty much anything else. "Instinct" means jack shyt with humans if you dont learn and practice the shyt regularly. You can take the avg man, give him all the tools, weaponry, supplies, etc needed to make it out there, and hed STILL be food, simply cuz he isnt built like that and just doesnt know how, let alone if you put him out there butt naked balls out

Literally no one wakes up with the means to survive in ANY environment, you literally have to be taught
