The issue is old black people plan really really really really badly for retirement.

The amounts in the video arent that bad. less than 300 per month. With the exception of the person who was hospitalized , most of these bills could have been covered with an extremeely modest nest egg of 90k. There really is no excuse for a human being to live more than 60 years as a working adult without this amount saved. Even the hospitalized woman could have alleviated her issues by having her home in a trust or escrow , where the payment of bills while she is incapacitated is automated or handled by a trustee.

These concepts of estate planning and retirement planning are very common among white people. But Its completely not discussed among black people. We dont even make an effort to educate ourselves en masse about these concepts. I didnt even know about these until i transferred into a majority white school district in the last year of hisghschool . Would you believe me if i said that the 90 percent white school i transferred to made it mandatory for their students to take both a finacial planning and an estate planning course before graduation? :wtf:

Its wild that Simply transferring from a black school district to a white one instantly made me more finacnially literate than my own parents. These are the knowldge gaps black people face. We also have a huge issue with superstitiousness and distrust even once these concepts are shared. Til this day my own parents refuse to do proper estate planning for their silver years, despite me letting them know :snoop:

Owning always beats renting long term. With that said property taxes are definitely a racket. I fully believe more would own if they had the down payment lying around. But home ownership, like everything else, isn't for everybody.

Property taxes are a good idea.

They pay for a lot of necessities in your community.

But like any tax, the problem is how they are assessed, and how the are spent.

I don’t want my tax dollars being spent on the military all the damn time. And I don’t want my tax dollars used on subsidies for rich a$$holes and their private companies.

And locally there are more issues.

This is the everlasting battle.

Property taxes pay towards maintenance of the roads that you drive, local fire and police departments, the school district, etc.. Sounds like a fair trade to me.
Do renters use the same services?
Ask anyone in the suburbs of Cook County IL if property taxes are fair.

All taxes are extortion.

Most people don’t know that income tax is a fairly new concept.

Lincoln tried it for a few years to fund the civil war and it was repealed after public outrage.

In 1895 the United States Supreme Court declared Federal Income Tax UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

It wasn’t until the 40s, once the European devils that this country was built to escape from finally got their hands in our Executive Branch with FDR that it suddenly became a mandatory thing again, completely ignoring the Supreme Court ruling.

Through trickery and public school indoctrination camps, we think it’s standard practice today, but we are all being robbed, and are all in some form of servitude.

I agree with your overall point, except for the part about Black vs. white people—that framing is off.

I know plenty of Black folks who estate plan. This isn’t really a race issue; it’s more about financial literacy and class. There are people of all races living check to check who haven’t been taught how to save or invest.

The real question is: how responsible should society be when people make these financial choices? You can’t force someone to save, and you also shouldn’t be fully responsible for the outcome of their poor decisions.

Also, the tone of your post comes off as condescending, especially considering you once didn’t know this stuff either—before you got into school. It reads like you’re looking down on the same people you used to be, instead of speaking from a place of empathy and growth.
