Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Indeed, many voices in the establishment press are citing favorable polling data in hopes of creating an aura on inevitably for President Biden’s proposed tax hikes.

That’s a very worrisome prospect. If Biden succeeds, the United States could wind up toppling Canada for the dubious honor of having the world’s highest tax burden on saving and investment.

That would be bad news for American workers.

But are Biden’s media cheerleaders correct? Are tax increases popular?

According to a new scholarly working paper from the Federal Reserve (authored by Andrew C. Chang, Linda R. Cohen, Amihai Glazer, and Urbashee Paul), the answer is no.

:dead: @ Canada having a 'dubious' honor of a slightly higher tax rate

:heh: @ the list of countries. All them are more than decent places to live with plenty of 'freedom'

The fascinating thing about this topic is that it is never properly presented to the country on either side of the argument.

There is never a direct option for the average person to understand what a tax increase means for them in simple dollars. Nor is there ever any meaningful attempt to inform on the appropriation of those additional tax dollars. So naturally, people hear tax hike/increase and immediately think "they're taking more money from me that will disappear into the ether, also known as the government wallet."

There is no transparency in how money is spent, and I feel that is intentional.

Like the other posters stated, it's about transparency. Nobody like parting with their money, but if you could show them exactly how it is going to be used to impact them, then I believe more people would be onboard.

you overestimate how lazy people are. I think it was Elizabeth Warren's plan was defeated by just telling people "your medicare taxes will go up". People were too lazy to consider the subtitle "but you don't have to pay for insurance or the donut hole anymore". It's hard to get people to pay attention past the headlines. That's basically the secret to Republican power.

That's how they trick people....

Ignorant and uneducated people.

Those tax rates are for CAPITAL income. Which is unearned. Divideds, Interest, the sale of property.

How does that affect the American worker? :mjpls:

The real problem with that chart is we live in a global economy. Technology has made the world smaller.

But because Ireland has a low tax rate for businesses, it's considered a corporate tax haven, that's exploited by not only the U.S. businesses, but European businesses as well. If there was a universal corporate tax rate, there would be no place for companies to flea too.
