All Nike sneakers are designed by dudes in Beaverton, Oregon. They put out prototypes and see how the public reacts to them. Some are nasty and are given away for free. My friend got the hook-up from a Nike salesman and got free Nike sneakers once in awhile.
Michael Jordan could care less what they look like. As long as they make sales and he makes a cut, that's all he cares about. He's a businessman, not a shoe designer.
The Jordan line is a sub-brand that has been successful for Nike. I don't see it going away. They seem to be less basketball-oriented and more fashion-oriented. The Hyperdunks look more functional. The kind of sneaker someone is going to wear to practices and games.
