Well, it's subjective. Is he the best in his genre of music? He doesn't have a country, opera or heavy metal voice.
There are a number of singers that I like and their voice works with their genre of music and the songs they sang. I like Luther Vandross, James Taylor (Kool & the Gang), Brian McKnight, Isaac Hayes, Al Green, K-Ci & JoJo, Al Jarreau, and Bell Biv Devoe. Those are just some. There are singers who are/were popular, but I don't like their voice that much: Michael Jackson, Joe Cocker, Mick Jagger, Neil Young, Kid Rock, Dave Matthews, Darius Rucker, and pretty much all country singers.
