It is a fair position to take. I don't believe in bragging about such things, but if it comes up in a conversation it isn't something I find pretentious.

You might be able to empathise with someone being hungry and taking steps to remove that issue, even if it is for a short period time. That generosity doesn't have to extend to trusting them with money or giving them the freedom to spend your hard earned on cash on substances that lead to their current predicament.

side story: I'll never forget reading about how some millionaire wanted to take a bunch of homeless people in NYC out to a fancy lunch and then break them off like $300 each.
but he linked with a shelter to round up the people, and they convinced him to cut them a check instead.
so even the shelter that's supposedly trying to help people get on their feet said 'you can't trust them with cash', and just looked at everybody standing on line like"don't worry, we handle the money around here"

that type of shyt is why the situation never gets better
