In Souther California, a lot of beggars like to wait at interstate exit ramps. I made it a habit to look at their shoes and hands. If your sneakers are brand new, and your hands don't look like you have been washing them in dirt for the past week, then go work. Only in the US are there plenty of jobs, but no one is taking them. Easier to beg than work

Mental Health is an issue, but a lot of these beggars out here are trust fund kids playing hobo. I mean, there are subreddits specifically geared toward how to live homeless, and beg for money as well.

I keep ones in my side compartment all the time to give out to ppl on the side of the road asking for money. Never know what ppl are going through...I have family members with mental health issues and if they didn’t have the support they have, they would most likely be in a similar position.

Only thing worse than the ppl who handout food instead of money are the ones who look at someone begging, and assume since they look physically healthy they should have no problem getting a job.

There are people homeless right now because they couldn't bring themselves to help out around the house they were crashing at.. You know, they didn't eat that day so they shouldn't have to was dishes..

And this is how petty people are, they'll argue that point to death that they shouldn't have to wash dishes if they haven't ate. And would rather sleep in random places until they're eventually on the street.. This happens a fcking lot..

A person wants to limit themselves to just feeding and clothing the poor, so be it.. They don't give a shyt about how another person feels about the way they give..

That's not how interactions work. You don't lose the power of choice after asking someone for something. What's stopping us from accepting what's offered? Help is two way street, it has to be accepted. If its forced, its no longer "help".

And I don't wanna give shyt to these homeless ppl either...but I won't sit here and act like is anything but selfish. I simply don't care enough to help Just you gave that homeless crackhead food instead of money doesn't mean he aint smoking crack today. alternatively, if you’re a person with nothing, and you ask me for money (A), and I say no, but I offer food (B) or water (C), yeah i’m giving you options, but you only have the choices I give you. You have no power. The begger has no control, no collateral in that scenario. People with no other options must be content with what is offered.

They have a crew of gypsy ppl in NYC they hop out of vans with woman and children they pick corners @4am from 23-59th street and just sit and ppl give them money. The scheme works perfectly but I don't give them shyt fukk them.

Yeah, if a homeless person asked me if I could buy them a sandwich or something, I probably would.

Reading these replies started making me feel like an a$$hole, but I guess every situation is different and money is probably the best option when it comes to helping the less fortunate.

Moved to Tampa, Florida for a job. Had an apartment set up but the people decided they weren't moving last minute. I still decided to go anyway and live in my 07 Honda Element until I find a new place.

Once I was there for a few weeks it wasn't that bad. I decided to give van living a try. I left Florida and came back to Louisiana the month before covid blew up in the US.

It's not that they don't want it or need it's they don't have anywhere to put it. Plus it's hard to move around with a lot of stuff.

Imagine getting $30 worth of groceries and walking home carrying it. "A few dollars" could have meant 4 or 5 dollars. My point is that $30 in groceries is a lot for someone living on the street.
