I got into an argument the other night, with some know its alls, including one dude who claims he knows kendrick lamar :rudy:

He was telling me how cats like Kendrick, managed to become the hottest rapper in the game, with no industry backing at all, and im just looking at him like :rudy:

Then got the nerve to call YG independent, wiz etc...

Maybe its just me, but I think, to be a rapper thats known across the country, basically be a household name(in the community anyways) you have to have had some type of industry backing. Its just no way a nikka is becoming the hottest in the game without any,

my 2 cents

Nah, they may not be signed, but they def have help behind the scenes from industry related entities.

I see.

I was watching some interview and Nick Young from the Lakers was talking about how him and Kendrick Lamar are cousins. I wonder if that helped him in anyway.

Slept on artist imo.

-Rocko says he's independent but idk how true that is.
-Gucci is independent now :heh:

But yea everybody with some amount of fame has either gotten there through a deal or acquired a deal shortly after.

I was at Interscope the day after Kendrick Lamar signed to them back in 2010...

Drake introduced an entire new marketing where you basically have a major backer that the public is unaware of so your fans feel like your "real" instead of manufactured & you get an "organic" push.

Nearly all new acts are being signed out of sight & pushed this way. It's why cats like School Boy Q slipped up and said he signed to Interscope in 2011 when Kendrick wasn't even signed PUBLICLY yet...

It's a marketing tactic because the generation of people now are against "the machine" so no better way to sell to them to make them think they're cheering for the "underdog"...

People fall for it left & right in the mainstream & underground it's a genius concept...
