They really put Lara Croft over Mario on an iconic list. 
People have a western bias putting Mario as number one Pokémon is international.

To the general public,
Pac-Man, Mario, sonic and pikacu have all been household names since the 90s.….master chief would be the most iconic character coming from the 21st century in the west and Link in the east. All other characters have their own nitch of popularity. People would know their video game characters but wouldn’t know their name.

Arthur Morgan is argubably my favorite character but his ass should not be over Pikachu, Pikachu should be in top 5 lol

Scorpion and Sub Zero are far more iconic.
scorpion and sub zero are ryu and kens kids
Makes no sense and has nothing to do with nothing. Scorpion and Sub Zero overtook Ryu and Ken a decade ago.
