You're looking at a GTI. Parts are everywhere because it's the GTI. Still more expensive than the others and not as reliable.

Quality cars yes, but reliable is iffy. Supposedly the new revisions on the engine are enhancing reliability but take that with a grain of salt.

as a VW owner, I advise you to stay away.

Lots of issues, and overall too expensive to fix.

Check engine light stays on. Mine is on right now. smh

I have a new car, a Honda, but I still drive my VW for work and going to stores etc.

Will never buy a VW or Audi product ever again

Volkswagen makes a nice car but you need to be a fan of the brand. Outside of the Jetta the cars aren't cheap to maintain and they can be tempermental from a reliability standpoint. The GTI models are dope though.

I wouldn't own one out of warranty unless you're a real car guy. I'm sure they're fine within warranty but after that it doesn't make sense really.

I had a older GTI I ran for about a year and it was a lot of fun but it had a lot of gremlins.

i cant speak to the old ass VW cars, ive heard terrible things too. i just picked up a 2017 VW passat r-line and the thing is a DREAM. Everything is smooth and works the way it should. I do not have much top end speed but acceleration is quick, especially once the turbos are nice and warmed up.

These cars are absolutely bullet proof, if you maintain them. Get all maintenance on time and from a reputable shop.

i honestly believe a lot of the hate is from people who cant really afford them, or they buy old ass models. The B7 Passat's are very solid, especially 2015+

By the way, this is my first VW. i drove a 2010 ford focus se before, and a toyota yaris before that. Let me know if i can answer any questions

Best,

Have a 2015 GTI
Had a 2010 TDI sportwagen before that
Had a 2006 Passat before that

Yes they are (usually) quality
No they are not more reliable than Toyota/Honda, but that doesn't mean they aren't reliable.
Yes they are nicer than their Japanese counterparts.
For the money VW & Mazda are currently the best entry level brands you can go for imo; most auto manufacturers have tremendously improved reliability and safety so a car that just doesn't break down isn't really a selling point. :francis:

People also tend to forget perceived Japanese reliability is built into the price.

How you liking the GTI my dude? I almost picked one up but went the passat route because I tend to entertain clients a lot so I needed the room.

I love my GTI, wouldn't have gotten it if it weren't for that TDI recall :blessed:

It's the best all around car in it's class. I shopped around between BMW (320i), Mini (Paceman/Cooper S), Honda (Si), Ford (ST) Toyota (86) and Subaru (WRX) and it was ultimately the best choice for one reason or another over its competition.

The Fender audio :whew:

The 18" Austin wheels stock:whew:

The sport mode suspension:whew:

The VW leatherette :whew:

And it came damn near fully loaded (it's a 2 door SE model) for ~$19k CPO w/ abt 22k miles on it

Honestly breh I couldn't be happier with it, and I'm gonna try to hang on to this car long after it's paid off.

I know what you mean about the Passat. Car is crazy underrated and it feels a lot closer to it's Audi counterpart than the rest of the line up.
