Marriage is really more about raising children..human children have the longest childhood in the animal kingdom..they also grow the slowest and need the most investment in terms of resources,guidance and protection.

IMO Marriage was a social construct to ensure that both the man and woman will stick around for the long term project

None of that has changed if anything kids take even longer to be self sufficient these days so marriage isnt going anywhere soon..

the real stats are 40% of first 60% of second marriages...Monogamy does exist in nature among many animals..its boring and disadvantageous for us but its not unnatural .....and spending your life with one person may be predictable but it does provide security and comfort which is neccesary if there are children involved but also some people do prefer that to unknown thrills.
