That show, while it might be the goat, made the black street characters WAY too dumb and stupid. Even the way they spoke some time was forced to make them seem too uneducated

All the top of my head:

- Dangelos bm to him when he’s leaving the house -“D, where you going at? “ :why: :mjlol:

- the dudes in season 3 not knowing the difference between the Edgar Allen Poe house and a “poor” house

- bodie referring to entrapment as “contrapment”

-the kid in season 5 thinking a copy machine was a lie detector test machine

It’s plenty more I can add later
You sure you want to have "Brotha" in your name op @BrothaZay

Because DAMN you really missed the point of that entire show. It's almost like you're... not pro Black... my Brotha.

the wire writers werent as fukked up and racist as the sopranos writers were but im pretty sure both shows were written by white people exclusively

with that said i do remember reading about michael k williams saying they let him have a lot of input :dame: and direction with omar over time, but at first he was really mad about season 2 focusing on white people

and with sopranos the italians especially the mob and their wives come off the most ignorant and hypocritical. like that scene where some random white family gets carjacked and the father starts shouting the n-word, then they cut to tony admiring a photo of the car. writers for sopranos seemed to go out of their way sometimes in that regard... like what kind of a name is massive genius :mjlol:? and the scene with christofuh and adrianna in the black burger restaurant?? i feel like he woulda got his ass kicked irl lol

oh my god and the dialogue

"bold men make bold statements" :demonic:

"and get served blackeyed peas tomorrow, yo, brotha?" :skip:

that shyt was STUPID. good thing the show got retardedly good after that episode, because damn

actually you can kinda tell with the writing in that episode, because the white rock band they parody is on the nose. they know how to make fun of rock music, but they have to show a rappers mansion, and the writers room is just like

man-thinking-concept-question-marks-260nw-115525405.jpg

that massive genius role was as bad as fukkin.. krazy eyes killah off of curb your enthusiasm. at least that shyt was on purpose. im supposed to take massive genius seriously?? that shyt was an L for bokeem man

tbh i wouldnt be surprised if HBO used the same mansion set for crazy eyes and massive genius lol

“a hit is a hit” was the worst episode of an otherwise perfect season.

As for the carjacking scene and then cutting to Tony looking at cars, I think they did that to show that Black people are usually the face of crime in this country, but there’s often white people behind much of it, that you don’t see and never get the blame, but make the bulk of the money. It also shows Tony’s hypocrisy. He goes on about suspecting that a Black kid stole Meadow’s bike, but he’s a huge car thief.

Sounds like OP has never been to Baltimore.
right
the only example that seemed like a reach was the copy machine one and apparently that was real and common too
I remember when the show was out there was discussion around some line where the actor said "be" in a way that's not consistent with ebonics/aave. other then outliers like that I thought the show was pretty authentic. they had real people from baltimore as actors and consultants like that melvin guy giving guidance on realism

I don't that they're was anything wrong with the depiction, if I'm being honest. They also showed the shrewd intelligent side, the Stringers, the Mario's, the Prop Joe's etc.
Stringer was by far the dumbest character on the show, THAT’S the conversation people really aren’t ready for. He’s the very definition of what Dame was talking about when he told Envy he was smart to somebody dumb.

You also show the side that book smarts don’t outweigh street smarts in the streets. Example; Stringer Bell trying to outsmart Omar and Brother Mouzune which led to his demise. Or Prop Joe underestimating Marlo Stansfield.

street smarts is a form of social intelligence.
and social intelligence tends to outweigh cognitive intelligence.

this is also true on the upper end of the spectrum.

trump does not have high cognitive intelligence, but he has high societal smarts. high societal smarts would be the equivalent of street smarts on the upper end of the spectrum. he knows how to move in high societal spaces.

and based off the marketing success of his campaigns to the poor and working class across all communities, his societal intelligence easily translated to street intelligence. which is why he's been so effective. the way he moves has been likened to a mob boss.

you have to watch out for people like this. if they are virtuous, they are the best people. but if they're not, they're the most dangerous people on earth.
