All my British black colleagues at uni told me Britain was what a post racial society looked like.

Yes and no.
Yes because growing up in Pittsburgh made me the person I am today.
No because Pittsburgh is extremely racist and too white for me. There was nothing for a young single educated black man there and I just had no desire to live in that segregated city amongst a large white population. Not to mention there are a lot of white people who fly confederate flags there and have confederate flag banners there and it drove me insane and made me really angry and frustrated living there on a daily basis. Living in New York for two years I only saw that twice (once on a hat in a 99 cent store...The other time when Kanye and the Yeezus tour came to town and he put that on his merch...which really did not approve of). Which is probably the main reason I could never live in the south. I have a very low tolerance for racism (zero tolerance really) and I've defaced people's trucks that have had confederate flag bumper stickers with spraypaint. I refuse to respect people's racism and racist memorabilia. fukk outta here with that garbage and excuses (southern pride man, the civil war was about states rights and not slavery, the Confederate flag isn't racist).
All in all...despite the hardships and the struggles I've had In NYC it made me a stronger person and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
