And since I'm not a PC gamer, I can't speak on that so maybe there is something in place?
But the 360 version, bootlegs will play. They always have before, don't see that changing

you might be right about the 360 version (I forgot about that)

on PC the only way to play pirated games online, is to play on some kind of bootleg servers (and I imagine they're filled with hackers). but they haven't released any dedicated server software for this game, and they probably never will, as it seems to be dependent on their Azure servers

and I don't think people have been successful pirating X1 games... yet
