but to answer the question for real, I'm going to have to go with malcolm, not because of the more 'radical' philosophy but because (based on the autobiography) he never stopped evolving. to be admittedly simplistic martin (creation) and malcolm (evolultion), though i'm not going for a metaphor here, i'm jus saiyan'. Imagine if this man from michigan had stayed alive. He would have become the president with as much dirt as he'd done. there would have been an actual country formed called 'Black AmeriCa'. halso, i don't believe all in jesus like dat so i'ma go with malcolm. The only thing I appreciate from martin on a personally level is the letter from birmingham. all that non violent stuff is for the birds, when you really think about it. i'm trying to survive! which one of these men would make it in today's society (unfair question i know but it's rhetorical)? I'm going off on a tangent but the police brutality(i.e.) of even the last year is absurd. fukk civil rights. nosuchthing. they are macing and buffeting white people for peaceful protest. malcolm is the obvious choice. I"M not tRying to sound extreme but it's the truth. no one is ever going to really give a fukk about anything but for so Long and it's up to you to advance your own life and preserve what little you can actually grab in the this life.

Staying on topic im more Malcolm. MLK is cool and all, but freedom that is given to you, is not freedom. For freedom to be yours it must be took. If another man has to tell you you are free you are not free, rather, you are free under their dominion.

Freedom is something that is yours, and for something that is yours, you have to declare it, not wait for another man to declare it for you.

People tend to forget that toward the end of their respective lives Malcolm and Martin were converging toward the same path.

Malcolm had stepped farther away from outright bloodshed/militarism and began to suggest we could have a bloodless revolution.

Meanwhile, Martin started to become disillusioned by the lack of progress due to the Vietnam War and poverty in the US.

Both were converging, both distinct, but both dissimilar.

However, Martin did tend to want to align himself and our people as well as situate ourselves within the system, whereas Malcolm wanted to create a whole new system of economics, community, and brotherhood across the world. Pan-Africanism, if you will.

The system wouldn't have been as receptive to Martin had there been no Malcolm (IMO).

I've always admired the evolutionary aspect of Malcolm since I have done the same throughout my life. Moreover, his commitment to personal excellence as well as far reaching excellence is what motivates me. His philosophy of self-reliance, work ethic, commitment to subverting the system through intelligently directed means as well as his pragmatic approach to working with the system if need be is what I adhere to moreso than Martin's vision.

Malcolm's vision was of selective brotherhood later in life, that is, "I'll work with you so long as you're willing to work with me and accomplish something meaningful" was much more realistic than Martin's "everyone should be equal" approach. Both noble, but only one is even remotely fathomable.

Long story short: I'm more Malcolm and willing to accomplish my goals and the goals of my family, friends, and community "by any means necessary."
