Someone explain what the purpose of...

weyland lying about being dead and deceiving the crew? seems like they all wanted the same goal which was to basically talk to their creators... I don't see the point of him trying to trick people... he wasn't even a bad guy...

nah, they didnt want the same thing
scientists wanted answers to beginning of life etc.. weyland wanted a fountain of youth/power over death.

So its all Damon Lindelof's fault. I should have known.
When I came in, there was a script that had been written by Jon Spaihts, who I share screenplay credit with, that I thought was quite good, but it was a dyed-in-the-wool Alien prequel. And I fundamentally felt like the best version of this movie would be to strip away its own inherent prequel-ness, which made it feel like you go into it knowing exactly how the movie is going to end. Connecting dots is not that rewarding of an experience. What’s rewarding is putting a puzzle together and popping that final piece in, and suddenly you understand -- this actually does connect to the world I know but in unexpected ways. So it was really about embracing something that felt a little bit more original and unexpected. Not to say that there would not be tips of the cap or strains of the familiar tropes of Alien, but they'd be more like afterthoughts as opposed to the bricks upon which the foundation was constructed.

Damon Lindelof needs to go work at McDonalds or something. People don't give a fukk about things being extra complicated and nonsensical for no reason....that's not art it's laziness. I'm not necessarily speaking on this movie, I haven't seen it. I'm saying in general, there is very few people that can pull this type of thing off, and after "LOST" he's obviously not one of them.

that's the problem. In 2012 people want to be beat over the head with answers instead of thinking for themselves.

I know some of you are going to look at that statement with the " :childplease: " face but it's true..

The writers and Ridley never intended on filling in all the "blanks".

People in here are confusing ambiguous storytelling with "plot holes". Ridley knows the answers and even said that if you look deep enough you will find them for yourself but he's not in the business of simplifying everything and telling a generic plot from point A to point B.

I can answer that and ain't even seen the movie.

That's not the same planet. "Alien" takes place on LV-426, "Prometheus" takes place on LV-223.

I think they may answer that question in the prometheus sequel (if we get one)

people want to know what happened to cause the engineer to crash and the backstory behind it (besides the obvious that he got killed by a chest burster)

Nah man. I have no problems with what he's saying, but he can't pull it off. He needs to leave that shyt to other people, because "LOST" in his mind is a good example of what he's talking about....and it's obviously not a good example. It was a bunch of made-up bullshyt they threw together.

I have to call bullshyt...regardless of Lindelof's desire to be vague and present a puzzle and Scott's idea to make a trilogy of films...none of that should have precluded them from making a movie that did all the things they wanted while at the same time being a good stand alone movie.
Making a movie that is pretty much all set up is just lazy filmmaking and making a movie that is intentionally vague (and I would argue that is is more lazy writing than vague) is just idiotic.

If Ridley would have done what you wanted him to do people would have been pissed off and called it "generic".

You know exactly the kind of people I'm talking about. Those who will complain if it's done their way or another. They just like to complain.

From what I understand, Lindelof tweaked the story but he didn't write the entire script.

At first I thought it was maybe something that had mutated from being exposed to the vases and it turned on them but then why was the engineer not shook of the facehugger towards the end?:dwillhuh:

Just saw the shyt and sadly it met my expectations. Could of done without all the blatant tacked on nods to Alien tho.

I know this is blasphemous around here with all the hate for remakes but how dope the Alien movies look now with all this new cgi and shyt used RIGHT? The cats behind this joint shot the fukk out of this movie everything was stunning brehs

The overt use of CGI is what hurts most movies these days.

Yeah thats what I mean by if done right. Im not talking about transformers cgi I hate that stuff and its overused. But I was sitting there watching this joint and the lil things from the older movies they put in here with updated tech. I mean those sleep pods are a staple of the whole Alien universe and in this it looked so damn cool.

I dont even think I was paying attention to the plot half the time and if I knew how to do spoiler tags Id ask what you all thought about that random ass obviously tacked on shyt before the end credits rolled:merchant:

Yeah but...

what was the point in hiding that from them? it's not like he wanted to rule the world or anything they all could've been very happy wouldn't you agree?
