The Roman Empire lasted for 1500 years in part. The Ottoman Empire lasted until the 1900s. British empire still has incredible influence today. Ancient Egypt's empire lasted for 3000 years.

All these places didn't turn to shyt when they fell. They just gradually lost power. There was little anarchy and lawlessness.

America is already losing influence worldwide and that will continue...but it still will will have a high HDI for a very long time.

I can't think of any major empires that collapsed into anarchy like that....either they broke apart into smaller stable states, lost influence or got conquered by someone else
