That shyt was on my fb timeline all damn weekend :aicmon:

Its been on fb for years now.

I would say the answer is 9, BUT those who argue 1 MAY have a valid argument the use of the () as a multiplication symbol really fukks this equation so much so that you can't call someone stupid or retarded for doing it those of you who are doing it above and replacing the () with * are changing the construct of the ORIGINAL equation.

No...given the format of the equation in the original post the people saying 1 are wrong...there is no "may" about it.

The only way to get 1 would be if you rearranged the problem to make it look like the middle format in the pic below:

Where the portion to the right of the division sign in the horizontal format is the entire denominator.

Wow :scusthov:

Both of those equations are the same breh

And the answer is 1 for both of them.. This is why we use brackets

It is not about division or multiplication. It's 6/2(1+2) has no multiplication, just brackets, and brackets are ALWAYs first... so it's 6/2(3).. or 6/6... or 1 :birdman:.. you are.. como se dice.. wrong

OR ARE YOU? :sadcam:

:leostare: If there is no multiplication then what exactly are you doing with the 2 and (1+2)?

Sorry sir, but when I'm right I'm right and when I'm wrong I'm still right :mjpls:

No. Both of those equations are not the same. It all lies in the set up.

Here is the 2nd equation in the (horizontal) form of the first equation:

Ugh to not confuse you it should be written this way.... This is why they are not the same problem:

(6/2)(1+2)= 9

[6/2(1+2)]= 1

Let me add a fifth grader would probably have it written in these formats, so all this confusion would be entirely avoided.

This question is written in a confusing manner. We went thru this on the old board.

I would say 1 but both answers are correct.

The answer is 9. Both answers are not correct. You do parenthesis first. Then left to right when it comes to multiplication and division. I haven't been in school in 15 years and I still remember that. There is no other answer. There should be zero confusion. The answer is 9.

Open that google calculator and enter it exactly how it is written and you will get 9. Just like any calculator will give you.

There is only one answer in math, it is finite in that respect. You cannot have two answers that are correct. The way it is written is meant to trick you. That is, it's a trick question.
