I remember when I was about 7 years old throwing that Chain of Fools record on the record player. She was so iconic for a very long stretch.

If female singers of today learned to sing from their diaphram we would have more power vocals. Thats the biggest issue. Women be singing from their throat and thinking they gonna sound loud like Aretha and end up straining their voices. I'm amazed so many people don't have this common sense already.

My pastor said the classical music station (yeah, he likes classical music) said they're even playing Aretha music in tribute

As they should. There's not a genre she couldn't command and conquer, including classical. Her performance of Nessun Dorma at the 98 Grammys is one of her top 3 live performances for me. The greatest voice of all time with Mahalia Jackson, Whitney Houston and opera greats Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price rounding out my top 5.

Literally we are seeing legends die and nothing even close to being the next generation to carry the tourch.

Thats the way it goes. The next generation is gonna have to focus on being legends through other ways like community activism. But music wise yeah i can't see it.

Unfortunately this is coming to an end of an era where black people made true soul music and actually dressed like and reflected the culture. Aretha stayed in minks , chinchillas and fox furs and kept exotics on her feet no matter what . It’s sad to see that we’re a shell of our own selves now . RIP queen

Or getting tired after being on tour for a year like SZA did. Stars of Aretha's time were touring machines and had more tenacity. Stories like this can often make the singers of today be embarrassed at how they don't live up to that level but its all on them. You could say hopefully this would inspire them more to step it up but it never does. Just glued to social media all day. Nobody wants to practice their craft. Is it that difficult for non rapping artists today to all take out 2 hours out of their schedules to learn something like the piano?
