I thought I was the only one feeling like that. watching all these Cac news anchors pretend to give a damn and rewrite her as a "feminist" hero to them.

:yeshrug: Better than no acknowledgement at all. I'd say Aretha is a top 20 arguably top 10 American artist of all time (regardless of genre), she's a national treasure. They gotta say something, even if it isn't heartfelt or from the soul.

True. As a Black American. It just seems so fake though.

As far as I’m concerned, my top ten are definitely all black artists. Possibly my top twenty as well.

James Brown... gone

Aretha...gone

Please protect Stevie :mjcry:

Stevie, Smokey and Al Green. Pretty much the only members of that special Black group of artists we have left.

Sure, we have Patti, Diana Ross and a few others.

But, really we’re left with Stevie, Smokey and Al.

I pray that those brehs are here for many more years and that we celebrate them now instead of when they’re gone.

It is fake, but real talk, people of all races and backgrounds will discover for the first time or rediscover Aretha Franklin's music this week. Her estate will gross millions of millions of dollars :yeshrug:

It'd be faker to not acknowledge it. Hell, there are a lot of artist whose music I don't fukk with or just never heard but if they die I can't deny legacy (Paul McCartney for instance)
